Just The Girl – Chapter Eighteen (a HYD-inspired fic)
"Hi, I believe we haven’t met. I’m Jodie Lerner." The woman smiled haughtily and introduced herself to Tina, acting as if she was expecting the blonde to know who she was by the way she said her name. "And you are?" She raised an eyebrow, blatantly eyeing Tina up and down – sizing her up.
Tina was momentarily stunned and speechless, taken aback by the audacity and rudeness of the woman before her. But being the so-called "stubborn weed" that she was, she stood up straight and puffed out her chest – matching the posture of this Jodie person. She wasn’t one to be willingly trampled on by these rich snobs. The mighty Bette Porter already buckled beneath her, so this obnoxious woman in front of her didn’t stand a fighting chance. "Tina Kennard." She said confidently. She was glad that she was holding glasses in her hands, she didn’t want to touch the bitch when they did the customary shaking of hands.
"Kennard huh?" Jodie smirked arrogantly. "Haven’t heard your name before. New in town?" She raised an eyebrow. She had a thing for Bette for as long as she could remember. They weren’t friends but they have known each other for years because her dad was one of the executive officers of the insurance division of the Porter Group of Companies. For so long, she was comforted with the knowledge that the elusive Bette didn’t seem to hook up seriously with anyone. It gave her hope that maybe one day she would have a chance with the hot brunette. So it greatly angered her when she was completely blindsided by a blonde that seemed to pop out of nowhere. The fact that Bette appeared to be more than smitten with the said blonde pissed her off even more.
"No." Tina shook her head to the side. "Been here for almost four years now." She answered matter-of-fact.
"Really now?" Jodie folded her arms across her chest. "And what, may I ask, is your family into?”
"Wine and funerals." Tina deadpanned. She wasn’t ashamed that her father worked in a vineyard and did some part-time job every weekend at a funeral home. Both were decent jobs, both gave food on their plates and a roof over their heads.

The flirting is so hilarious! I think Sam may be getting some fire in her about going after Helena, I hope Helena will give her a chance. Tina’s handling of Jodie was picture perfect. I am definitely off to read more.
