    Tina:  (getting into her car, crying)  “Yeah, well, life’s a *****, isn’t it?”

    I’ve Got You Under My Skin – Chapter 7
     

    Bette’s House
     
    As Tina fumbles through her handbag looking for her car keys, Bette stands on the curb in a daze from the events that took place just moments ago.  She just stands there physically frozen, but emotionally she feels as if she just had her heart ripped out.  For one of the first times in her life she stops to realizes just how hurtful her actions and words can be to others.  Bette thinks to herself, “When did I become such a monster?”  As several minutes go by Tina becomes all the more persistent in her search, her frustration begins to turn to rage.  “Why can’t I find my ***** keys,” she thinks to herself.  Yet sadness seems to capture her soul and she becomes its prisoner for this moment in time.  Bette’s heart can’t stand to see Tina so upset.  Without thinking, Bette starts to approach Tina’s door.  She knows that this risk could mean that she will be pushed even further away, but she has to do something.  Bette opens the door, kneels down on her knees and begins to comfort Tina.  Tina doesn’t react or flinch at Bette’s touch, instead finds great comfort and solace from her presence.
     
    Bette:  “I am so sorry that I have upset you like this.”
     
    With tears streaming down her face, all that Bette can muster together are the words, “I’m sorry.”  Over and over she repeats it, as she strives to calm Tina down.  Bette unconsciously makes another bold move, without hesitation she reaches for Tina’s hand.  She finds that Tina welcomes her hand in her palm.  Bette reaches in closer and Tina finally breaks her reserve and embraces Bette’s body completely.  Bette is happily surprised that Tina is responding to her attempts to bring comfort to her pain stricken soul.  While getting up off her knees, Bette lets go of her embrace to Tina, stretches out her hands and says,
     
    Bette:  “Come here, so I can hold you better.”
     
    Tina:  “I’m sorry.”
     
    Bette:  “Shhh .  . . don’t worry about it.  I deserved it.  It’s okay.”

    5. Oh, I just caught up with this story and I’m loving it. I’m glad the fight between Bette and Tina was REAL and that Tina didn’t just give into Bette. Because what Bette said and did was truly hurtful. Tina had every right to be really upset. Ohhh, it’s going to be a long week for both of them—AND US!!!

    7. YES,sometimes you just have to keep pushing and trying. I would have done the same thing Bette did when she opened the car door. What a way to end the evening, sleeping under the stars in a double lounge chair together. I’m gonna go with the others and figure Bette and Tina are going to the same place. Keep up the good work.

    19. i loved this post, i think it’s only tina that brings the sweet and loving side of one miss porter, i think is kind of cute that these 2 could forget their argument and just want 2 be in each others arms.
