    Alice is leaving, What will Dana do?
    short story


    Dana begged her, ” Please Al, don’t let me go, please don’t let me go”.

    Alice pushed Dana away softly, ” I let you go a long time ago Dane, I thought that it was what you wanted”, she tried to stay calm and so far it was working for her.

    Dana struggled with her words, ” No Al, I know it’s what I saidbut it’sit’s not what I meantI mean I thought”.

    Alice smiled trying to calm her friend down, ” look Dana, I get it, but it’s not gonna work, I’m not gonna stay because after 6 months you decided you made a mistake, I love you Dane, but I’ve moved on and maybe you should too”.

    Dana didn’t know what to do, it was obvious Alice wasn’t going to back down, ” Alice I fucked up I know I fucked up, but I never stopped loving you”.

    Alice winced at what Dana had just said, truth is she never did get over Dana because she knew that no matter where she looked, Dana was always the one who was meant for her, but she couldn’t handle another heartache. Alice needed to get away for a little while. She knew that she was running away and that running away was never the answer, but this time, it was the only ending she saw for herself.

    Alice zipped up her last bag and looked over at Dana, ” Dana, I know you love me, even through all the *****, I never doubted that, but right now, if you really do love me the way you say you do and the way I believe you do, you’ll let me go, the same way I let you go”.

    Dana said flat out, ” you’re running away Alice, you’re running away from me, from us, from everybody. I know it’s my fault, but I can’t let you go”.

    Alice dropped her bag and sighed, ” You Have to let me go Dane, I’m going to make you whether you like it or not because I am leaving no matter what you say”.

    Dana slammed the door before Alice could get to it and pulled out a ring, ” Marry me Alice”.

    Alice looked down and saw the ring, ” Shut up Dana and get out of my way”.
