Great Unexpectations Chapter 22
Tina drew near, rubbing Bette’s back and said, "Angus? Have you ever had one of those days that just makes you appreciate how lucky you really are?"
With a sly grin he answered, "Actually, I’ve had one or two of those days very recently."
Bette drew back with smiling, moist eyes. "Why don’t you go to Kit? Go do something nice together. Maybe take her to the beach. It’s a beautiful day."
"That does sound nice", he agreed. They made their goodbyes with more hugs than anyone had a right to expect.
After he left Bette and Tina were left standing in the middle of the living room. Bette still holding a sleeping Angie. Tina with her arm around Bette. "Should we put her down?"
"No. I just want to hold her. And you. Come here", Bette said as she walked to the sofa and sat down. Tina sat next to her and soon Bette had both of her girls leaning on her, one on each shoulder. "Tina?", Bette asked. "How old do you think Cora is now?"
Tina thought for a moment, doing the math in her head. It had been at least three years since Bette faced off with Faye on TV. How old was Cora when she ran away? Too young. "She’s probably about eighteen or nineteen", Tina said reaching for Bette’s hand as it rubbed Angie’s back softly. Bette leaned her head back, remembering what she was doing at that tender age. University. Dating. Parties. Good times. Good friends. A promising future ahead.
Her thoughts were interrupted by Tina’s sweet soft whisper. "Bette. I just want you to know that whatever you decide, I’m with you. We’re in this together, okay?"
"Whatever we decide, Tina. We. I’m not making this decision on my own. This affects both of us. All of us. Besides, she wasn’t asking only me."
Tina exhaled deeply and lifted her head from Bette’s shoulder. She stared at Bette until Bette returned her gaze. Tina still said nothing. A slow smile escaped Bette’s lips. "What?", she grinned.
"I don’t know", Tina finally said. "Sometimes I look at you and am just amazed at how much I love you. How good things are right now."

You made my night with this post! I love this story. Mr. Buckley….hmmm…what ya got cookin’ there redhorse? Faye is in pretty bad shape & as much as I was happy that Tina gave her the “smack down” at the Planet, you now have me feeling sorry for her. Oh, you read that correctly…It’s your fault that I actually have **dare i say it?***”Compassion” for Faye! I guess that’s the best compliment I can give you, Red. Your writing is so good, that I want Bette and Tina to help Faye find Cora. **which I know is exactly what you wanted, right?** Ciao.
Aww. Loved the family time. And the hot ending.
Seems the masses concur that this post was fabulous – who am I to disagree? LOL. I knew you still had some cleverity up your sleeve, Mr. Buckley, indeed! So a victory on the boards and on the baseball field, seems like lady luck is smiling on you Red! PPmoreS
Absolutely wonderful! Thanks!
Wonderful, Red!!
God, I love these two. What a perfect ending to an rather depressing and sad day. They will help cos thats just who they are, bit worried about Mr. Buckley.
Love this story. You write beautifully.
LMAO Bette reminds me of the Old Man from “A Christmas Story” and how badly he wanted just a little bite of turkey.
This story gets more intriquing with each chapter. Mr Buckley, the evil and horrible excuse of a man needs to have his gonads cut off and hung up to be viewed by all. On the other hand Bette and Tina have such a closeness even after all that they have been through.
Great chapter!
That was really quite heart-warming, lovely really. I wonder what they’ll decide about Faye and Cora, cos I worry about that “Mr Buckley”… quite a bit, actually. Just in case I haven’t mentioned it, I love this story, red. Thanks for the chapter.
And here’s how well your writing sticks, red: I was just in the shop and went through the aisle with all the alcohol in, passed the shelf full of Jose Cuervo and immediately thought of Faye Buckley singing, which made me laugh out loud. Of course I got looks, it being a weekday before lunch and standing tittering to myself in front of the tequila, but ah well. Yeah, good times. Again, thanks!
Great chapter! They are so sweet and loving to each other. I hope Mr. Buckley isn’t going to be a big problem. PPS!!
What a beautiful family, and what a perfect interlude before Mr. Buckley enters the picture. If she wants their help, Faye needs to tell Bette and Tina the full truth about her ex.
Brilliant, continue soon
