    B&T Beginning – Chapter 6

     

    When Tim saw the attraction between the two, he quickly excused himself telling them that he needed to set up the grill, leaving Tina and Bette standing in the kitchen staring at each other.

     

    “Its nice to see you again, Tina Kennard.” Bette said.

     

    “You too Deputy.” Tina joked in return as they giggled together.

     

    “Can I get you something to drink?” Bette asked after a while as their laughter subsided.

     

    “No, I’m fine.” replied Tina “I think we can bring this salad out now, it’s done.” 

     

    That evening they spend their time joking around, laughing and talking about nothing in particular.  When it was time for them to go home, Bette was getting more and more nervous, she wanted to ask Tina out but she didn’t know how.  When Tina was about to get into her car, Bette quickly ran to her.

     

    “Hey, I want to thank you again for everything you’re doing for Angelica.” She said while catching her breath.

     

    “You don’t have to thank me everytime you see me Bette.”

     

    Bette smiled. “I know.  So, how much longer do you think she’ll need to keep staying after school?”

     

    “I’m not sure yet, maybe a while I guess.”

     

    “Oh, in that case I’ll see you around then, I mean after school when I pick up Angelica.”  Bette immediately corrected herself soon after she realized what she said.

     

    “Sounds like a plan.” She said and smiled.

     

    For a long moment neither of them said anything.  Tina glanced at her watch “Listen, I’m running a little late.”  She said apologetically.

     

    “I know you got to go.” She said, not wanting her to leave just yet.  She wanted to keep talking.  She wanted to ask her out.  It had been a long time since she had been in a situation like this.  She wondered whether she should ask her to lunch or dinner, or maybe a movie. And when Tina started to climb into her car, Bette tried to come up with ways to stop Tina, so that she could have enough time to make up a plan.

     

    “Wait, before you go, can I ask you something?”  She blurted out.
