Bette began to look forward to seeing Tina after school. She thought of her frequently and sometimes in the strangest of situations, while doing her grocery, cleaning, taking her shower and especially at night while lying in her bed. She found herself wondering about her routine. How’s her morning routine like, what is her favorite cereal, what would she look like when she woke up every morning. Though sometimes they exchanged small talk everytime they met, it still wasn’t enough to satisfy her curiosity. There were moments when she wanted to ask but she decided to hold herself back from getting too personal. Who knows, Tina might not be interested in her and she might not be either not in that way.
But this feeling was all new to Tina. She had never been with a woman before, but she knows that it is different when she is around Bette. She feels excited, she feels clam, sometimes when she’s alone she wonders what it would feel like to be in Bette’s strong arms, holding her close at night. Is she falling in love with Bette? When she thinks about it she quickly erases the thought.
When Bette arrived that Sunday morning Tina was already there. She turned around when she heard someone calling out her name from behind.
“Bette, come here I want to introduce you to someone.” Tim waved. She turned around and quickly walked towards him and Tina.
“Tina, I want you to meet a friend of mine, Bette Porter. Bette, this is Tina. Tina Kennard.”
“Hi. Bette.” She held out her hand “Where’s Angelica?” she asked.
“Oh, she’s outside playing soccer with the rest of the kids.” She took her hand and smiled.
“What?” asked Tim in surprised. “You guys have met before?” Tina is the lovely lady that Tim wanted to hook her up with. He’s been talking non stop about Tina in the department hoping Bette will agree to just meet with her.
“She’s Angelica Math Teacher Tim.”
Bette was so happy to see Tina there. For some reason her attraction towards Tina once again reminded her that she wanted to start over. She wanted to find someone again, someone like Tina, who was cheerful, kind and who knew her way around kids. But where would it go from here? That was the part that she wasn’t sure about, she didn’t know anything about Tina. Tina Kennard. She said to herself. They might not be compatible at all. What if Tina was not interested in her at all? What if Tina already had someone?
