Have a great first day back
Once again there was no signature. Tinas thoughts immediately went to Bette but she wasnt sure as Bette didnt mention it on the phone earlier but maybe??
Moving the flowers off to the side, Tina then saw a pile of paperwork with a note on the top. Welcome back thought you could review these, Oscar.
Now thats more like what she expected and with that Tina began her work day. On and off during the day her co-workers would come up to Tina and welcome her back, demanding to see the twenty or so pictures of Anna that Tina brought with her and in general make Tina feel at home. As time moved on Tina got up to take a coffee break mid-morning and was pleasantly surprised by the Welcome Back Tina banner that was plastered across the break room wall. Someone had apparently sprung for donuts and coffee. As more co-workers gathered, Tina was happy to tell them all Anna stories.
As Tina worked through her day, in the stack of papers Oscar had left for her she came across the grant application for the MYV Foundation grant. Tina immediately thought of Grace and her offer to help. Without any more thought Tina dug through her purse to pull out Graces card. Picking up the phone Tina dialed getting her voicemail, Grace this is Tina Kennard, I hope you remember me. I am calling to take you up on your offer to help with the MYV grant. I am looking at the application right now and I have some initial thoughts but would love your help. Please call
Tina starts to put all her ideas for the grant in an organized fashion for when she meets up with Grace. As she begins thinking more ideas hit her, what if we add corporate sponsorships which will act like multipliers to the funding, oh and what if we run the programs out of the South Central office which has a population more in line with the definitions of the grant application and what if The more Tina thought the more and more ideas came to her.
With in the hour of Tina leaving Grace a message she returned Tinas call. Happy to accommodate Tina, Grace and Tina arrived at a time in the late afternoon-early evening when Tina and Grace could work on the grant together. At first this alarmed Tina as she needs to make arrangements for Anna. With a tentative date set up Tina apologizes for needing to get back with Grace after she has arranged child care.
With the day finally over, Tina looked up at the clock and realized she was exhausted. Packing up her leather bag with some papers she thought she might review at home later Tina decides to call it a day and go home to her angel. Now that the day was over all of Tinas thoughts were on her little baby. During the drive home Tina realized how far away the Center seemed as the drive was taking for ever. Pulling in the driveway Tina couldnt get out of her car fast enough to jump through the front door. Tina almost felt like doing the Ozzie Harriet thing of coming through the front door and yelling Hey Im Home but then thought that maybe Anna might be taking a nap. Bounding through the front door, Tina is immediately hit with the scent of good food and the sounds of a laughing Anna. The house looked great with everything having that just cleaned gleam to it. Wow was the only thought that ran through Tinas mind as she ventured farther into her house.
Reaching the kitchen Tina sees the force behind all. There in the middle of the kitchen holding Anna and stirring something over the stove is Bette.

“Standing in the front door, Tina just looked at her baby as the sitter picked her up and waved her little hand at Tina in goodbye. With tears in her eyes, Tina tore herself away and ran to her car. She needed to get out of here before she lost her resolve and threw the sitter out and stayed home for good.”
Those words brought tears to my eyes remembering how hard it was to leave my daughter after the maternity leave was up! I don’t know of many moms who successfully manage to arrive at work the first day back without loosing their mascara! Thanks for that!

Methinks that Bette wants to be doing some other kind of cooking with Anna’s mom after Anna goes to bed…but I think that’s a part for a little longer down the line. Nicely done.
