Bette had scheduled Jack for a lunch appointment as the rest
of her day was pretty booked.  Looking
around she realizes she needs to call for carry-out as without James around she
needs to hang around to answer the phones.
Looking around for the stack of take-out menus, Bette pulls open the
filling drawers of James’ desk.  A smile
breaks out as Bette looks in at the neatly organized draw after draw.  She quickly spots the file labeled ‘menus’ as
her smile broadens.  That’s James alright,
    everything in its right place.

As Bette looks through the menus, deciding on what to have
    for lunch the phone rings.

    “Good
    Morning California
    Art Center
    ,
may I help you?”  Bette says.

“Bette where’s James?” Tina inquires surprised that Bette
was answering the main phone line herself.

“Oh he’s out today, I sent him to Vermont to deal with Rachael Hunter.” Bette
    informs Tina.

“Isn’t that the artist you’ve been courting forever?  You let James go?” Tina asks totally
    confused.

“Yeah, it will be a good experience for him and besides I
didn’t like the idea of being away right now.” Bette nonchalantly declares.

“Really you feel it too?” Tina asks really understanding
more of Bette’s motivation than she is saying in words.

     Bette doesn’t respond
immediately to Tina’s suggestion as part of her isn’t ready to verbalize the
sense of apprehension she’s been feeling.
It started with that night at MOCA which means it involves Helena but Bette just
doesn’t want to bring up her name.
Trying to be diplomatic Bette simply says “I just got my family back,
why would I want to go traipsing all the way across the country?”

Tina realized that Bette was ignoring her suggestion but
went along with it laughing “I don’t know?
Why would you?” Tina strikes the same tone as Bette.

“So have you made it to San Diego safely?” Bette asks changing the
    subject.

Tina proceeds to follow Bette’s lead “Yeah, safe and
sound.  I thought I might get a little
something to eat before my meeting.
Getting up so early has messed up my internal clock.  I’m hungry.”

    “I believe that.  You
seemed to be out of the house before I had a chance to get up and say good
bye.” Bette says but it comes out a little like a whiney.

    1. Yes, the plot thickens and B&T need to prepare for battle. While Helena is laying out her devious plan by planting seeds about Bette’s character, B&T need to continue to explore the imformation about Helena’s fraud with other non-profit organizations. They also need to get swarn statements from the attendants in the delevery room (Remember, not only does Tina not know that Bette was there, neither does Helena.) Great story, pleast post again soon.

    2. As promised, football and a story from Jwet! What more can a girl ask for? No, I didn’t cook last night, but may tonight. Probably some fish and veggies.

Of course, coffee on me. But I don’t live on the Big Island of Hawaii. I’m on the island of Oahu. Do you know where you might be staying?

Please post soon…..I’m getting worried about Tina driving and if Helena might be in San Deigo making trouble. And who at Peabody Foundation is sprading bad rumors about our beloved Bette. Will Alice and the gang help our heros? All these questions can only be answered by you.

Thanks for writing and coffee….anytime; it’ll be my pleasure.

    3. I have a bad feeling that Tina is going to have an accident on her way home. She will either die or be in a coma then Helen-a will try and claim Anna. I hope I’m wrong.

    4. Two good chapters here as you set things in motion. You have created an atmosphere of expectation – something is going to happen and I don’t know if it’s good or bad. I’ll cross my fingers and trust in your capable storytelling.
      Thanks.
P.S. You still owe me and Techgal an explanation of what “HMS” stands for.

    5. I’ve just spent the last few days reading every chapter of this story and I just finished. I have loved every chapter and can’t wait for the next one.

Seeing how Bette’s grown and truly marvelling at her altruistic actions setting up the foundation. I like the way you came up with the name, I was wondering where it came from myself. I love that Alice figured it out in her dazed but apparently not so confused state.

All the tension of whether her and Tina would work out had me on the edge of my seat and sighing in frustration when the two of them were asking themselves the same questions and going through the same fears. At times I wanted to yell, ‘NOOOOOOOOOOO!’ and I’m sure a few times I actually did, lol.

I’m eagerly awaiting what comes next although I’m more than a little scared about what the Hellenator has up her sleeve. The way Bette and Tina are though in this story I know they’re gonna survive it, but I know that’s gonna be one hell of a storm.

      Bring on the next chapter…

    6. JWet,

Hey Hun, still thinking about chocolate?

So now back to this tremendous tale.

As with life it is the simple things that make it worthwhile. The early morning kiss or unexpected phone calls that demonstrate real love. And that shows throughout this bounteous chapter.

You have crafted this latest installment with such care that I feel honored as a recipient. I will wander around the rest of the day with a smile. Please note that this is down to you and this marvellous masterpiece.

      Question include:

As for Helena, what maniacal mind games does she have planned for your daring duo? Can our dashing duo defend their family and destroy the evil villainess? Does Helena have a “Cruella De Vil” complex? Does she want a coat made of puppies?
Does Jack have a crucial clue to the downfall of such wickedness?

Please let me know the answers soon.

      Thank you as always.

      Your Loyal Fan.

    7. my glass of wine. soothing and intoxicating.

“i didnt like the idea of being away right now.”

“…she has an awful temper, uses profane language and is in general a real bully.” oh, j, i really want to drop kick hellno, you know?

      “the plot thickens.” ya think?

“the other thing that can happen is that someone else may challenge your position.” Hellno is really in lala land. gawd!!!

please let me be first in line *jumping up and down* begging to be picked first to kick her ass into next month. ahahahah.

your doing it to us again j. sucking us into the web. *hearts racing, short breaths of worry*. post soon and thanks for your time and energy.

    8. i have no words to describe Helenas personality..she is evil and envious but against B&T she only can frustrate and delay their plains a little but she will never win..ok another fantastic chappy thanks J

    9. okay so no accidents going to San Diego!!! (whoosh…I’m wipping my forehead), now u got me on the edge of my seat wonderin if it’s gonna happen on her way back????? it’s been too much of a smooth ride, so I can smell the drama coming!!! HURRY UP AND POST WOULD YA……LOL!!!!!!!!!!

    10. damn that helena… is there any ways to prove that those pics are fake and that she’s a pussy in the delivery room?
anyways, can’t wait for the next post!

    11. helena need to be taught a lesson even before all the drama is due to unfold tell B&T to give me a call and ill get the birds round to see to helana

    12. Now see, if you had taken the hamster ball route with Helena and dropped something very big from above during Tina’s MYV Dinner, none of this would be happening, but alas it has and SHSL is once again going to be the Phoenix rising out of the Ashes of Helena F’king Peabody, I’m sorry but that woman so grates on me, and here I am trying to keep myself calm!
      Another great chapter mate!

    13. Glad that Tina called Bette. She needed a little grounding after all of that coffee. Actually, I think they both needed that sense of connection.

I want James to organize my drawers. Please?

The details about adoption were interesting. Makes the story more complete knowing what goes on behind the process.

Oh, it looks like Helena could have a hand in trying to prevent Bette from adopting Anna. But then again, she may end up withdrawing a bloody stump if she messes with Bette, Tina and Jack.

You’ve got me anxiously waiting for more!

    14. I agree with albeez you know how to weave a web that looks like it could hurt our girls. Oh you evil author types are all alike – brilliant and clever and when do we get more…
