Friday’s Late Lunch Date (Time of Day 22)

“Yeah,” Paige nodded. “I can remember the toddler days.”

The phone in Tina’s purse buzzed, and she took it out, hitting the button to read the new message.

Tired from long trip. Catching up on sleep. Dinner tonight?

    all my best,

    Bette

Tina read the message another time, then put the phone back in her purse, a smile gracing her face.

    “Good news?”

    “Perhaps.”

“You wouldn’t happen to be seeing someone, now, would you.”

“Please. I’ve just got done with one ill-considered relationship.”

    “Kate?”

“Kate was not a relationship,” Tina corrected. “I’m thinking of Henry. Or trying to not think of Henry, more like.”

    “Not so good, huh?”

“I came to realize that what I thought I needed from a man, I didn’t need.” Tina straightened the napkin again. “Not from a man, anyway.”

“I suppose you have the baby thing figured out.”

Tina was a little unsure about the context of her friend’s statement. “What does that mean?”

“I mean, you’ve got a donor, you can do it again.”

“True. We’ve got enough ‘juice’ saved up.”

    “You and Bette.”

“Well, the plan was for Bette and I, originally, to have more than one child.”

“So does Bette talk about more children now?”

‘Not with me she hasn’t,’ Tina thought. “I don’t know.”

    “But you might try.”

“Honestly, at some point, I’d like to. And I’d like any siblings of Angelica’s to be her full siblings.”

“Now, if you think one’s tough,” Paige gave a knowing chuckle.

“True.” Tina. “Anyway, anything like that is something I’d only do with Bette’s consent. Donor selection was something between the two of us. I don’t consider the choice to be only mine.”

“I’m sure you guys will figure it out.” Paige craned her neck for a moment.

“Are they here?” Tina started to turn, also.

“No. I just thought I saw someone.”

    “Friend?”

“Nah I thought…” She looked again, and then waved her hand as if brushing away the thought. “Never mind.”

Tina pulled out the phone and checked the message once again.

Tonight. She’d be seeing Bette tonight.

That meant Bette wasn’t in New York.

Again, Tina gave an enigmatic smile. She’d been half-listening to Paige asking if they should order or wait. “I’m fine waiting,” Tina offered. “I’ll probably just have something light, anyway.”

Paige nodded and continued with whatever she’d been discussing.

Leaving Tina to again half-listen, and half-process.

    Bette. She’d see Bette tonight.

    1. I like that B&T are both thinking of one anther. I wonder when the second child conversation will be. Lucky me, I’m going straight to your next post! Love when that happens!

    2. I just read this and then I went back to the previous chapter.I liked the power tool comment on the last chapter. The saying good bye to Jodi was intense.Hopefully there is a chance with Tina.PPS.

    3. I wonder who Paige thought she saw? I started thinking it might be Kate, or worse still, Jodi. That’s a distant concern though, to the main point: Bette’s home, and Tina’s going to see her. Since Bette didn’t really have much of A Talk with Jodi, I guess Tina’s next in line. I hope this one is a lot less one-sided and isn’t as filled with invectives. Great post, thanks for the update, pseud.

    4. I guess Bette is thinking that any conversation she and Tina might have would be OK over dinner, unlike her last with Jodi. Considering how Jodi had behaved towards Bette, it was odd that she reacted with such vitriol when Bette broke it off with her. Well, with Jodi, it’s all about Jodi. So even if it was Jodi Paige saw, it really shouldn’t make much difference. Bon appetit, B & T.

    5. I wish I was seeing Bette tonight…. Sorry, I digress, the sun is finally shining again in NYC, putting me in a mood so to speak, heh. Now will the next post be B&T getting ready for dinner or having dinner?

    6. I forgot that Paige was still in your story. Perhaps you can make her interesting. Because the show does not. I liked the conversation about Tina considering having more kids and that there would be no more secret inseminations. As always it was a wonderful read. I for one love the short chapters. It keeps it tight and to the point. Thanks.

    7. I’m trying to remember if you had Tina and Paige talk once before. I know someone did and I’m pretty sure it was you. For some reason, at least in FF world, they just click. I’m sure it’s because they’re both moms and most likely something else. PPS

    8. As hard as it was for Bette to end things with Jodi this will give Tina and Bette the time to raise their daughter together without outside interruption. I hope that they are able to work things out and get to start over as a family. I like how Tina did not convey that Bette and her are talking again about their relationship.

    9. I love how you’ve incorporated Paige and Jared into your story. It’s good that Tina has someone to share the parenthood experience with. Thanks!
