Friday’s Late Lunch Date (Time of Day 22)

Tina sat at a table by herself in The Planet. She straightened her napkin, once again, as it sat in her lap.

A voice came from behind. “Hey.”

Tina jumped slightly. Turning, she saw Paige at the table.

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.”

“I thought Shane and Jared were going to be here.”

“Jared was hanging around Wax earlier today, skateboarding. Gave me a chance to catch up on some things around the house.” Paige took a seat across from Tina. “This is good,” she commented. “I can see  the door so I’ll catch them when they get here.”

Tina handed a menu over to Paige. “I know how that is, to be glad for a little time to yourself.” She picked up her iced tea and took a sip. “I don’t normally get a mid-day break myself.”

“Does Bette have your daughter this weekend?”

“Actually, Angelica is back in Kit’s office, napping.”

    “That’s convenient.”

“One benefit to coming here to eat,” Tina agreed. “Kit’s back doing paperwork and Angelica, after a tough morning at the park, finally sat still long enough that she just conked out.”

    “Oh, those were the days.”

“I suppose it’s a little tougher when they get older.”

“It is and it isn’t,” Paige flipped through the menu. “Part of me wishes that he was still a little boy, not verging on teen. Another part of me is glad to be done with potty training.”

    “That’s my next battle.”

“Well, be glad for a girl. Let’s just say that.”

“I suppose,” Tina said with a chuckle. “So, Jared’s father isn’t involved?”

“Hardly. You may be separated, but you’re still lucky that you’re not all on your own.”

“That’s true.” Tina tried to keep her smile from growing too large, thinking of Bette. “It’s been a long time coming, but now, I think we’re figuring things out.”

“That’s good. It’s been good that Shane’s been willing to help out with Jared.”

“Still, when I have Angelica I’m by myself. sometimes I miss the luxury of being able ot take time out for a long soak, or some other such indulgence.”

    1. I like that B&T are both thinking of one anther. I wonder when the second child conversation will be. Lucky me, I’m going straight to your next post! Love when that happens!

    2. I just read this and then I went back to the previous chapter.I liked the power tool comment on the last chapter. The saying good bye to Jodi was intense.Hopefully there is a chance with Tina.PPS.

    3. I wonder who Paige thought she saw? I started thinking it might be Kate, or worse still, Jodi. That’s a distant concern though, to the main point: Bette’s home, and Tina’s going to see her. Since Bette didn’t really have much of A Talk with Jodi, I guess Tina’s next in line. I hope this one is a lot less one-sided and isn’t as filled with invectives. Great post, thanks for the update, pseud.

    4. I guess Bette is thinking that any conversation she and Tina might have would be OK over dinner, unlike her last with Jodi. Considering how Jodi had behaved towards Bette, it was odd that she reacted with such vitriol when Bette broke it off with her. Well, with Jodi, it’s all about Jodi. So even if it was Jodi Paige saw, it really shouldn’t make much difference. Bon appetit, B & T.

    5. I wish I was seeing Bette tonight…. Sorry, I digress, the sun is finally shining again in NYC, putting me in a mood so to speak, heh. Now will the next post be B&T getting ready for dinner or having dinner?

    6. I forgot that Paige was still in your story. Perhaps you can make her interesting. Because the show does not. I liked the conversation about Tina considering having more kids and that there would be no more secret inseminations. As always it was a wonderful read. I for one love the short chapters. It keeps it tight and to the point. Thanks.

    7. I’m trying to remember if you had Tina and Paige talk once before. I know someone did and I’m pretty sure it was you. For some reason, at least in FF world, they just click. I’m sure it’s because they’re both moms and most likely something else. PPS

    8. As hard as it was for Bette to end things with Jodi this will give Tina and Bette the time to raise their daughter together without outside interruption. I hope that they are able to work things out and get to start over as a family. I like how Tina did not convey that Bette and her are talking again about their relationship.

    9. I love how you’ve incorporated Paige and Jared into your story. It’s good that Tina has someone to share the parenthood experience with. Thanks!
