Present Day

Bette stood on the ledge of the tallest building in the city of L.A, gazing down at the streets below. She listened intently to the city, listening for anything. She could hear Michael Young going off in someone’s house, they were talking about her.

“So Night Raider is her name—“

“How do we know it’s a she? It could be a he for all we know!”

“Yes Rick, a he with sexy curves like that,” The host said laughing

“That black mask, she should take it off! If she is indestructible as she seems, she wouldn’t need to hide behind that mask of hers,”

“Maybe she’s not as indestructible as she seems, but without her a lot of people would be dead,”

“We didn’t have a superhero before, why do we need one now in this day and age? She does what the police are suppose to do, which is catch bad guys. I’m sure they can do it themselves,”

“Rick, she saves people, when has that ever been a crime?”

“Never. I am just saying what if she breeds others like herself? They could do some real damage and there is only one of her,”

“Rick, she can travel at fast speeds, she has wings to fly with, she can lift cars with her bare hands, even take a bullet or two! I’m sure she will be fine,”

“Sounds like a superman copy cat to me,”

“Well Rick, there is only two problems with that, Superman didn’t have wings, and NiRa is real,”

“I am just saying where did she come from? We want answers from her…”

Bette smiled, it was humorous how they called her Night Raider, NiRa (Near-ah) for short, and she may have some powers like superman, but the host was right, she was real. Rick Renolds seemed to always be against her. She didn’t understand, she was helping people, using her power for good and not evil, what was so wrong with that?

 All of a sudden Bette heard someone scream loudly; she focused her hearing towards the sound so she could listen,

“Give us your purse you stupid bitch!”

“Leave me alone!”

Bette jumped off the edge of the building, nose diving towards the ground; right before she hit she brought out her wings and took of. The woman’s cries were getting louder by the second, she was close.
