Even in the Quietest Moments, Chapter 29

    Chapter 29

Tina stopped in front of Bette and Angelica as they waited for her at the front door.  She stole a glance at Bette who was dressed casually in loose fitting pants and a close fitting three quarter length top.  The light colored top contrasting with Bette’s loose dark curls.

“I don’t think the dinner will run terribly late.  I’d love to stop by after and kiss Angie goodnight.  I’d also like to talk with you if you’re ready.”

Bette regarded her silently and Tina suddenly became aware of Bette’s discomfort.  It slowly dawned on her that there was low music playing and the living room was softly lit as if Bette were expecting company.  Oh shit, she is expecting company.  One guess Rosanna.  As if on cue she heard the rumble of a powerful sounding engine pull into the drive. She didn’t need to turn to know she was right.  She looked at Bette’s face and had her answer.  A surge of anger hit her even though it was irrational.  She had left Bette and had no right to expect that Bette would wait for her.  When Bette had told her that she wasn’t able to invite anyone to the house a few weeks ago she assumed that Bette still felt the same way.  It had meant so much to her to know that Bette in some ways kept a part of herself, her life that they had shared to herself.  It seemed that was no longer the case.

Tina debated turning tail and running.  She made Bette meet her eyes even though the brunette was actively trying to avoid them.  What she saw made her want to look away.  She saw pain, longing, hope, anger and a flicker of love.  She knew this was a watershed moment.  She heard it said ‘All in love is fair”.

“This is not over, I suggest you begin to handle your business” She turned to watch Rosanna stroll up the drive.

Bette looked at Tina in shock.  Before she could respond with the biting comment that threatened to burst from her lips Rosanna reached the trio.

Angelica recognizing her immediately brightened up “Sanna!”

    3. Maaajor uh-oh! Ooooh, i’m lovin this! “Handle your buisness” tell her Tina. Ro watch out b/c the train is coming your way. Great post, thanks. Cant wait for the next one!!!!

    4. Tina is SSSSOOOOO OUT OF PLACE speaking to Bette like that. She’s just wrong. She ought to tread lightly and speak softly before she erodes the very fragile ground on which she stands with Bette. Her sudden change of heart and merely stating the fact that she wants Bette back clearly is not enough. And I’m sure that Rosanna is no push over. I logged on and saw 3 chapters and had to read quickly, I was so happy. Looking forward to more. Thanks Kelika.
