Dawn of a new day
“I was in New York for three months while the house in West Hollywood was being renovated to add additional square footage that would accommodate this family that I’d dreamed up. While in New York I attended a donor’s party for one of the New York Universities that CU collaborated with. That’s where I met Amy Reed. She was an alumni and artist in residence. She was beautiful, and outgoing; a free independent spirit so different from any other woman I’d ever been with. She was fun and feisty but also strong and opinionated. She challenged me at every turn but I found it appealing instead of being put off by it. She drew me out of my shell and totally turned my world upside down.
Everything happened so fast between us that at first it was invigorating. I’d never been so carefree nor had I ever gone into any relationship with such abandon. I actually thought maybe she was the one but we weren’t too far into the relationship before it became evident that this wasn’t a match made in heaven.
For starters distance became an issue with her being resident in New York and me living in California. We’d talked about the possibility of her moving to Los Angeles when she completed her term at the college and me spending more time in New York. It was a compromise but it was workable if we both committed. Then she springs the fact that she didn’t like children; wanted no part in having them in her life. She said they interfered with work and sex. She also didn’t believe in monogamy. She lived a nomadic lifestyle that didn’t allow for anything permanent or long lasting. When I told her of my plans she accused me of being a control freak and believe it or not I started conforming to her way of thinking. I compromised to keep her and actually considered giving up or at least putting off everything I thought I wanted in life to be with her. When she realized just how vulnerable I’d become and that she had that kind of power to control me she abused it.”
“Is Amy the girlfriend you told Val about that night at our house?” Tina asked as she recalled the conversation between Bette and Val a few months prior.

I was just completing and sending my comment from the last chapter when I discovered this new chapter. So happy that Bette told Tina about her history. It is important that they have nothing between that would affect their lives in the future. Its great that Tina is mature enough and sure of herself to understand all that has transpired in Bettes’ life and still be able to love and share in their love and future plans. All these negative things have changed and colored Bettes’ life in a significant way and now Tina understands the nuances that makes Bette the woman that she has become yet still love her to the bone. Wonderful chapter. Thanks for posting.
Also happy that helena seems to have redeemed herself with her mother. I just hope she carries through and not warn those two hellish bitches of their impending doom. Can hardly wait to see what happens next. Enjoying these chapters so much. Thanks.
Dang BAT!! It’s hard trying to catch up with your story as you post faster than I can read your chapters but you are doing such an excellent job even if I haven’t commented in a few chapters!
I love that Bette is fully opening up and trusting Tina enough to share her history with Jodi as it gives Tina a better understanding of how that has been a part of what has shaped Bette into the woman she is. I love how you have Tina so supportive of Bette and sure of where she is in Bette’s life now. Helena seems to be showing some redeeming qualities and that’s good to see and of course I just love your Peggy in this story. Kelly and Jodi really don’t stand a chance with Peggy looking out for things
Thanks BAT – Loved it!
What a great chapter, thank you:
for taking the Peggy/Helena relationship to a better level and expanding their characters
for strengthening Bette/Tina’s relationship by Bette trusting the full story and Tina showing such strength and support
Beautifully written and great storytelling as always look forward to your next post.
Just wanted to tell you that I am still reading but I didn’t comment because I read this story before and remember especially this part of the story. So not to give anything away I am staying away from commenting but know I always follow your exceptional writing.
Bat, it was a great chapter. you bring together miraculously. I loved the part where Peggy and Martha “interrogation led Helena” :D
It was really great to see that Helena honestly told the story, and she regretted what she had done. the change in the behavior of Helena is the most positive thing for me. I hope to stay that way!
I’m very glad to Bette, was able to honestly say Tina, what did Jodie. Tina supportive, loving and compassionate behavior was the best.
Overall, it was a wonderful chapter.
I am lost, it’s hard to comment when i read the comments from the others, i agree with all of them.
I have read this story before but can’t remember everything, so for me it is so good as new.
You are a fantastic writer and i love this story.
Thank you for the quick updates!
Thanks BAT, it was a profound chapter and so well written. I loved the way you handled the conversation between Helena and the two moms and how mature she had become in being honest with herself and Peggy. Sometimes words do need to be said in order for healing to take place.
I also love the place where Tina and Bette are in their relationship in being open and honest with one another. Relationships are hard and do take lots of work to be the best they can be. I have a good feeling that Bette and Tina are well on their way to that kind of relationship.
Thanks for this amazing story.
Great chapter. Once again you have captured the essences of human connectivity through your choice of words.
So glad Bette told Tina everything and that Helena came clean too. Thanks so much for the two updates. Loved them
