Coming up for air – part seventeen
Bette entered The Planet Thursday after work. Alice was standing at the counter waiting for the drinks she ordered. Bette sneaked up behind her, leaning in over her shoulder.
“Well, if it isn’t the famous Alice Pieszecki of The Chart?”
“Security!” Alice screamed, “the fans are getting too close.”
“But miss Pieszecki, I mean no harm…” Bette laughed.
Alice took a step back and gave Bette the once-over. “No harm? Girl, dressed like that, you’re lethal… where are you going, Porter? You look good!” Alice growled.
Bette laughed, “why miss Pieszecki… are you coming on to me?”
“Please…! I don’t get friendly with the fans…” Alice giggled.
“No? I remember a time when you were pretty “friendly” with me…” Bette said wiggling her eyebrows.
“Well, I found another celebrity to get cozy with… no need for me to mingle with the common people anymore…”
“I guess the common people can rest easy from now on….” Bette said snidely. Alice grimaced at Bette’s comment.
“No seriously, Bette… are you meeting someone important? You’re dressed to impress…”
“Thanks Al… No, I just came from a meeting with an important sponsor… and I guess my suit worked its magic, cause I just secured the financial backup for the next show.”
“That’s great, Bette… congratulations!” Alice smiled.
“Thanks…”
“Are you going to join us?”
“Sure… I’m having dinner with Kit… but I have time for a drink with you guys… I’m just going to say hi to Kit and I’ll be right over…”
“Hey sis…” Bette smiled, standing in the door to Kit’s office.
“Hi baby girl… come in…” Kit said, waving Bette inside.
Bette gave Kit a hug before she sat down in the chair by Kit’s desk.
“So? How did your meeting go?” Kit asked.
“It went well… the next show is secured.”
“I’m not surprised… you’re a persuasive woman, Bette…” Kit smiled.
Bette laughed, “I guess I can be at times… I had a talk with Franklin after the meeting. He wants me to go to London next week to work on getting the ‘New Times’ exhibit to The CAC. It’s showing at Tate Modern right now… and he wants me to do a little research… and suck up to some people, I suppose,” Bette said with a sigh.
“Why do you look so gloomy all of a sudden? A free trip to London… It doesn’t sound too bad to me…” Kit asked.
“No, it’s not… It’s just the timing of this trip… I’m really making progress with Tina and I don’t want to be away from her right now… that’s all. I know I’m privileged, going to London… it’s great, I just wish I could take Tina…”
“Why don’t you ask her to come along?”
“Because she’ll say no… she doesn’t want us to rush this… and going away with her would definitely speed things up. I want to show her that I can be patient and not put pressure on her all the time…“
Kit nodded, “I think you’re doing great, Bette… I’m proud of you… you’re probably right not to push Tina too much.”
“Thanks Kit… I couldn’t have done this without you… you picked me up, sis. You never gave up on me, and I can’t tell you how grateful I am for that…” Bette said looking at Kit with love.
“Oh Bette… when I think of all the times you have come to my rescue… the times you were there for me are countless. It was my pleasure, Bette… I’m just so happy to see you recover… that’s thanks enough,” Kit smiled with tears in her eyes.

whoa…wow…brilliant…great to wake up to your story…the dialogue…the re-building of the relationship…maybe B can invite T to go so they don’t have to delay ‘the talk’??? yeah, I’m just impatient for them to get it on!!! Love your writing…thanks for this and no pressure (lol) but PPS
Unless they make a vacation of it its only 4days and Bette will be working like a maniac anyway. Besides, this could be valuable time for Bette to make some decisions and for them to flirt like crazy as absence makes the heart grow fonder!

What a pleasant surprise to see that you had posted another chapter. Now that’s what I call dedication to your readers—having your g/f home and still finding time to give us another chapter. This is the way it should be—the two of them talking and laughing and teasing each other. If you want something bad enough the work it will take to achieve it will be well worth it. I’m surprised Bette didn’t just come right out and ask Tina to go to London with her. Maybe they need a few days apart so Bette can figure out what she wants to do regarding her career. I’m sure the time is going to drag for them both, the anticipation will be excruciating for them. Nice update, anker. Cheers!

This was a wonderful chapter. I got scared when Tina didn’t return those calls. I am glad they sat down and actually talked. Keep them talking and loving each other. Ohhhh be still my Tibette heart.
