    The pregnancy test….

    Coming up for air – part forty seven

    “10.55am… damn…” Bette said to herself as she checked her watch for the tenth time that day. She was to leave work at noon and she couldn’t wait. Patience had never been her strong suit and this day proved to be challenging for that part of her personality.

    Bette’s phone rang. “Yes, James?”
    “I’ve got Kit for you on line one…”
    “Thank you…”
    “Kit? Hey sis…” Bette said happy for the interruption from her pacing the floor like a mad woman.
    “Hey babygirl…? Am I interrupting? I can call back later…”
    “No, no… your timing is perfect…”
    “Oh… well great…” Kit said quite surprised by Bette’s willingness to talk while she was at work.
    “How are you Kit?”
    “I’m fine. I just wondered if you’re going to swing by The Planet today… or if you’re meeting up with the girls later? It is Friday after all….”
    “No, I’m not Kit… Tina and I have plans… I’m leaving in an hour actually…” Bette said and looked down at her watch again.
    “You leaving so early? Are you going out of town?….. You sound sort of preoccupied Bette… are you sure I’m not calling at a bad time….”
    “No, we’re staying in tonight… and no Kit, you’re not calling at a bad time… I can’t concentrate on work anyways…”

    Kit was silent for a little while. “Are you…? Are you trying again… I mean for a baby?” she timidly asked.
    Bette smiled into the phone. Besides Tina, Kit was by far the person Bette trusted the most. It had taken many years to resurrect their relationship, but at this point in their lives Bette had no idea what she would do without her big sister.

    “Kit, please don’t share this with Alice or anyone else from the gang. We’re not ready to talk about it with anybody but you…. but yes, Tina and I are trying again. I’m leaving early because we have a pregnancy test to do…”
    “…You are…?” Kit breathed, “Oh, Bette… babygirl… you have no idea how happy this makes me. How long have you’ve been trying?”
    “We only just started… we could be a long way from succeeding,” Bette said, trying to prepare herself for the possibility of a negative test.
    “Or you may come home to learn that you’re going to be a mom… You have to have hope, babygirl…” Kit said so very softly.
    “I know….” Bette whispered, trying to swallow the surge of happiness she felt just at the thought of a positive test.
    “Well, then I won’t disturb you any further… just give my best to Tina… and call me as soon as you can with the result. You will let me know, right?”
    “Of course I will Kit…. you’ll be the first to know… Cross your fingers for us…” Bette said.
    “I will… good luck, babysis…. I love you…”
    “I love you too, Kit… talk soon…”

I like the fact that their problems and the way their relationship progress is portrayed in the form of conversations between the character rather than offered as opinions or background info by the writer. anyways I just love this story so PPS. thanks

    11. Yes they are pregnant. This time it will be better. I am surprised that Bette could function at all with all the turmoil that she has had in her life. Her mother leaving her and scarring her for life. Tina is a very strong woman to be able to go on with all that has happened to her also. No parents around, almost losing the love of her life and losing her first child. That is enough to send anybody on the road to insanity.

    14. Hello Anker, Good to have you back. I am doing a little happy dance to celebrate your return. Thank you so much for your kind words. Given the effort that you put into these wonderful chapters it only seems fair to comment and share my thought with you. I wonder how often a writer reads the comments and see something completely unexpected. Each reader will interpret your magical words differently. That is one of the benefits of this medium. SO on to Bette and Tina. Well, firstly, Bette and Kit. It was great to see Bette with ants in her pants about returning home to see Tina and carry out the pregnancy test. And how sweet was she at sharing her desires for a child with Kit. This shows that their struggle to maintain a sisterly relationship has been so worthwhile. Yes, it has taken time and a lot of effort on both side but now the rewards can be taken. Then getting an idea of Tina’s day before heading home. At least her presentation would remove her from the am I, aren’t I scenario. Once at home it was tantalizing to see Bette as attentive and nervous about the test. Okay, this was way different from the previous test but so important in strengthening Bette and Tina’s relationship. Sharing this life-altering moment was joyous. Bette’s lust and lascivious behavior was hysterical. I could just imagine her being a mouse and seeing Tina as a big lump of cheese. Anywho, it was awesome to experience the unadulterated bliss that flowed their discovery. Tina is pregnant. I can now see Bee running around the streets and shout this from every corner. It is early days and they aren’t out of the woods yet but I hope and have my fingers crossed that a beautiful child will be the result of their partnership. Please, please, puh-lease make it so. That’s how I would describe Bette’s reaction to “little stick thingy” **that line made me LOL, because that’s exactly how I would probably refer to it** I agree, these two are going to make it. Hopefully with a beautiful baby in their lives but if not, they have a love that will see them through. Well, except the diaper thing… Anyway, I guess I hoped to say (tactufully, of course) that many stories become formulamatic after the pregnancy is introduced. However!!! I have such strong faith in your ability to take our girls down such unexplored and unique pathwyas, I’m sure that the ordinary would be the exception and not the rule!     26. Well, Well, Well what can I say but what a great surprise to come back from my vacation to not only one chapter but two from one of my fav authors. And yes to answer your question..I did go back and read this story from the beginning. You see I was going through what I like to call “anker withdrawal”, so that was the only way I could get my “fix”. LOL Now about these last two chapters. I don’t think I have the words to tell you how fantastic they both are…but you know me so I’ll try. In chapter 46 I love the fact that Tina is not going to just sit around and let Bette go back to her old ways at work. Also love that Bette is willing to listen and they are really talking to each other about how they are feeling. Now this chapter made me smile, laugh, tear up and even say ah. Anker I didn’t think it was possible but your writing keeps getting better and better. You are a wonderful and talented woman and I am so glad to be able to be counted as one of your friends. Oh and yes once again I am patiently waiting for your next email. LOL
