Coming up for air – part forty five
It was Sunday morning the day after Bette and Tina came home from Aspen. Tina had been up for an hour. She was sitting outside in the shade with her back against the house wall.
The past week had been amazing. Tina couldn’t believe how driven, yet attentive, Bette had become after her first less than successful day. Bette had hired a personal instructor and in three days she was flying down the slopes just behind Tina. The days had been filled with exercise and laughter; the nights filled with romance and deep sleep after days in the sun and snow. It had felt like they had made an unspoken agreement not to think ahead, not to discuss issues still lingering between them, not to dwell on the past or the future. The week had been about spending uninterrupted quality time alone together, and Tina felt like she’d been filled up completely. She couldn’t really think of a time when Bette had set aside her own personal agenda for her, like she had over the past week.
Monday morning they would both go back to work and Bette was facing her first semester start as the dean of The Art Department. All her time up till this point had been about preparing for the task, learning, planning. This was the time when she had to step up to the plate and prove she was the right woman for the job. Silently Tina worried what that pressure would do to Bette. Together they could be only weeks away from trying to get pregnant. Once again that process was colliding with Bette striving to succeed at work.
Suddenly the phone rang, disturbing the Tina’s silent Sunday morning contemplation.
“T.K…. welcome back to la la land….” Alice said.
Tina smiled into the phone, “Hi Al…. and thanks….”
“How was your trip…. any broken limbs?”
“No…. we’re both safe and sound…”
“So… you have absolutely no excuse not to come to The Planet for brunch!” Alice said with determination.
“Other than the fact that Bette is still sleeping… no….”
“So wake her up already….” Alice pushed.
“No, I’m not gonna wake her up… she needs her rest…”
“Oh, so you wore her out…? T.K… you sex monster…” Alice growled.

Wow. Bette was being so damn adorable.. until she went back to work. Can she finally get her priorities right? Poor Tina. Sitting there alone with her thoughts about their possible future child. I know you will fix it. But still.. this chapter’s end made me pretty sad. I hope Bette adjusts stuff without being told to.. that would actually show awareness and maturity. PPS. For real.

What a beautifully written update! Welcome back! Your description of Bette’s memory was so vivid, it brought the entire scene to life. On the lighter side, loved when Alice was teasing Bette about the moaning. Too funny! Hope your vacation was as good as Bette and Tina’s. Thanks for posting.
Whew, that bearskin rug must have felt so nice on their skin. The picture of Bette in the contrasting light would have been beautiful of the dark haired woman. I bet that would be breath halting to have seen Bette in that frame. Tina needs to somehow remind Bette or Bette needs to be reminded not to put Tina on the back burner again.
I went to visit my son and granddaughter today and when I got home something told me to check the site. WOW am I ever glad I listened to that something. That my friend was a very very HOT love scene. Heck half way through it I even forgot that Bette was just remembering their time together on that bear skin rug. Anker, you my friend were on fire with this chapter. The ending does have me a little concerned though, but I trust you and know that you won’t let Bette go back to her old ways. I hope you had a wonderful vacation and I can’t wait to hear about it. I am looking forward to going on mine next Saturday. Hope to hear from you before then, but if not we will get in touch after I get back. Oh yes and just one more thing…I missed your writing so much that I went back and read this story over again from the beginning.
Damn, I can so picture Bette sitting their as Alice is blabbing away, and she’s got that far away look. Tina always knows. Lets hope Bette doesn’t get too caught up in work again that she forgets about Tina.
Glad to see you post, I thought this story was one lost for the ages. But as Phyl said, that was definitely worth waiting for.
Oh. my. gosh. I dunno if the weak feeling in my legs is relief cos you’ve finally posted, or just like, a reaction from the heat of what you did post. Damn, anker, that was… something else. A little worrisome towards the end, though, despite the good news from Charlie… Bette’s gone all workaholic again and falling into the same old habits… Not good. That however, cannot be said about this chapter, which was excellent… just flaming *hot*. Ack, and I’ve got to go into work now, on unsteady legs… I’m sure I’ll manage, but I might be a tad distracted. Post soon, anker… and btw, that was a good effort. I’ll give you 45 points, plus 5 extra for the knee-trembling heat of the chapter. Thanks for posting (and stop leaving us!!! Please!).

“tiny beads of sweat had made her flushed skin look like it was sprinkled with hundreds of tiny diamonds.” Damn! That line was sexy as hell. Anker, you are forgiven for leaving us while you **and I quote** “went down south and caught a little of what you needed!” **raising eyebrows with a mischievous grin** LMAO! You go catch whatever you need bella. As long as you come back to us with posts like this one, it’s all good. LOL! And if you & I went skiing we would definately be laughing our asses off, because I would make a complete fool of myself. Though the warm and cozy part could be interesting…very, very, interesting. **wiggling my eybrows up and down** I hope Tina will trust that her and Bette have come a long way from the B & T of past. When you start to contemplate every reaction that your partner will say or do, you are shutting down communication before you even give a chance. I think Tina should go pull Bette out of her meeting and share the joy she is feeling. She needs to stop making assumptions for Bette’s feelings and let Bette do that for herself. It may or may not be the response Tina is looking for but that’s the chance you take when your in love. Ciao.

Hey Anker, Glad to see that you like my comments. That simple gesture just makse it all so worthwhile. I loved this chapter as the heat from the fire wasn’t the only thing causing my temperature to rise. There was a wonderful sense of connection between Bette and Tina as Bette relive their night on the rug. Alice’s comments were LOL moments as was Bette’s blushing. Strange and typical that working life has now taken over and Tina is beginning to question Bette’s committment to their plan to have a child. Now Bette needs to get her skinny ass home and talk these things through wiht Tina. Tina needs to show some backbone and challenge Bette on why she is spending so much time at school. Yes, ity does take time to build a reputation but Tina should head over to the school and see if she can help. Even if it is just making coffee and ensuring Bette eats. Being together is what counts and then communication will be simpler. Please let Bette see the state that Tina is in and help her out. More please, As ever you craft a beautiful drama.
