    Comfort Enough

“Well, Tina, you and the baby are both doing very well. Measurements all look good. Your blood pressure is fine. I couldn’t be happier with your progress. Are you still having trouble sleeping?” Dr. Wilson asked, looking up from her chart to meet Tina’s eyes.

    “Off and on,” Tina said.

“I’d love to tell you that will improve, but,” Margaret Wilson smiled.

“I know. I’m probably sleeping more now than I will once the baby is born,” Tina said.

“Just be sure not to overdo it. Listen to your body. When you start to get tired, slow down and rest. The idea here is not to push through your fatigue but to acknowledge it and respond. Try naps. I know I’d like to,” Dr. Wilson added with a grin, getting up to retrieve two brochures from a rack in the exam room.

“You should probably also be thinking about registering for a Lamaze class,” she said, handing one pamphlet to Tina and one to Shane. “You already exercise regularly, which is excellent. And Lamaze, as you know, will teach you some important relaxation and pain management techniques.”

Shane looked over at Tina, but Tina was already poring over the brochure, an intense frown creasing her forehead.

“I guess the whole childbirth thing is non-negotiable,” Tina said, wincing.

“I have a feeling that by the time you’ve carried that baby around for another three and a half months, you’ll be more than ready for delivery,” Dr. Wilson raised her eyebrows. “If you don’t have any more questions, then I’ll see you in a few weeks.”

Tina and Shane both shook their heads.

“All right. Until next time.” And then Dr. Wilson was gone.

“Do you still want to stop by the furniture gallery?” Shane asked, standing to leave so Tina could change out of her gown.

“That would be great if you have time,” Tina said.

    “Absolutely.”

As Shane sat in the waiting room, the feeling of uneasiness that had been building in her chest for the past week and a half started to intensify. Ever since she saw Bette and Tina together during the spontaneous dinner that night, watched them interacting, observed the subtle and not so subtle electricity between the two of them, Shane had been anxious. She was feeling caught in the middle of something, and after the disastrous way her relationship with Cherie exploded, Shane had promised herself that she’d never make that “in the middle” mistake again.

    1. There’s so many different things going on here, all of them wonderful.

In the midst of the Bette and Tina story, I really appreciate they way you are exploring the subtle shadings of Shane’s attraction to Tina.

I love this story. Kudos to you!

    2. I dont get why Bette is playing the attentive housewife and neglecting Tina’s needs as far as this baby goes even though I like that Shane is there for her…

    3. Nice multiple story lines you have going on here. I like the way you are giving Shane more depth, allowing us to see her devotion and struggle with her feelings for Bette and Tina’s relationship…and her feelings for Tina.

Thanks for giving Dr. Wilson a first name as well! I have always liked her character and felt she was worth exploring more.

I’m guessing that Bette is the one that came in to buy the crib?

      Great stuff, keep it coming!

    4. How sad for Shane…she knows the right thing to do. However, I am curious if Bette knew that Shane and Tina were at the doctors together and if Tina and Bette have broached this topic…how could they have not???!?! Love this story…

    5. I have a feeling that Bette doesnt know Shane has been stepping in for her.
And I hope Shane doesnt do anything dumb; she knows that no one will ever be Bette; no matter how close Tina allows them to get to her.

    6. in there with ya snQQpy. i dont think bette knows the extent of support from shane. hopefully shane wont do anything dumb.

god FFC you are killing me. i know i cant have more BUT i want MORE. you are so good. this story is so awesome. i feel the chappys are soooo short. im sure this being patient thingy is good for me somehow. thank you.

    7. “A woman came in earlier today and picked it up.”..that woman was Bette????..ok who is the babys other mother Shane or Bette?..cuz Shane is in a place who belongs to Bette…this is sooo not right i hope Shane do the right thing too and step back..im sad..post soon

    8. I don’t understand if Bette is already in Tina roommate and their are get along together did Tina ask Bette to come to the Doctor for her not Shane it’s seem to Me that Bette she still Out Of The Blue and go to the furniture with Shane where are you Bette? Hey Bette are you really busy or lock of communication Ouch! that’s was so sad poor Bette.

    9. OK, it seems as if T hasn’t talked to B about being there for the doctor appts, and all the prenatal stuff. How so? Doesn’t she want B to have a part in the pre-baby preparations? I guess she too is having problems defining that line of roomates and former wife (though not technically). I think it’s more b/c T’s not ready to be that close to B. They both have that weakness of physical attraction.

    10. Good point momo…where is B? I have a roomate who has terrible kidney problems and I always know when she has to go to the doctors. I mean, she’s my friend and I ask…I don’t have to wait for her to tell me. B knows T is pregnant, shouldn’t she be asking T if there are appts and the like that she needs to be going to?
On another note, I just think that the woman who bought the the crib is Bette. Though it may work out, her not including Tina on the purchase could be a sign of an unchanged B. But like I said, this is just a hunch.
