Closure – Chapter 18
Dana was swiftly shaking her head back-and-forth. “No. There is no way you are going back to her. Al. I am not afraid of her.”
Alice answered “I am” in a voice that was more of a cry than actual words. She started sobbing and her hands were shaking. Dana once again gathered her in her strong arms and led her to the bed. She held Alice tightly.
“Alice? You do not need to worry about her anymore.” She could feel Alice shaking with fear and sobs. “Sweetheart, please… She doesn’t know where you are. She doesn’t know you are with me. I have taken precautions to keep you safe here. The order for protection will be in place shortly.” Alice seemed to be settling a bit.
“I am prepared and I am watching for her. I won’t let her hurt me. And I will not let her hurt you again.” Dana said these last words with such conviction that Alice couldn’t help but believe.
They sat in silence while Dana continued to sooth Alice by softly rubbing her arms and back.
It was almost 2 and Alice hadn’t eaten since lunch. “Come on, hon, let’s go eat.” Alice went with her without argument.
Dana sat Alice at the dining table and went about putting together sandwiches for lunch.
Lunch was a quiet affair. Dana was happy to see that Alice at least ate some of her sandwich. As lunch ended, Alice cleared her throat to speak.
“I heard what you said and I think you would be safe if I stayed but, Dane, I really think I should go. I can’t complicate your life any more.”
“Alice. I don’t know how to make you believe that you are not. That there is nothing more I want in my life than to be here with you now.”
“But I should get back to my life. It doesn’t mean I want to stop our friendship. I just need to give us some space.”
“I have wasted several months not being with you in some form or another — as friends or as lovers. I don’t want to waste any more time.”
Alice thought quickly. “I have to work, Dane. I have bills to pay.”
“I understand, but, I don’t see why you can’t just take it easy for a week or so. Honey? You really need to give yourself some time to heal.”
Dana knew she had said something wrong when Alice turned away from her. “I don’t need anyone to take care of me.” She said softly.
“That’s not it, Alice.” Dana worked to turn this around. “I have this house for a month and I really want to spend time in it with my friend. With my best friend. Are you on any deadline with your next article?”
“No. I am researching various topics and trying to pick one.”
“Why not just take it easy right now? Maybe treat this as a little vacation? I know it didn’t start under the best of circumstances, but, why not take advantage of this lovely location?”
“I don’t want to crowd you, Dana. And this place is a babe magnet.” Both girls smiled. “I should really go.” But Dana could tell she was only offering up token resistance at this point. Alice could get very stubborn at times.
Dana reached across the table and gave Alice’s hand a gentle squeeze. She strove for a light tone in her voice when she said “You’re all the babe I need.”
Alice looked up at the goofy grin and gave a small one in return.
“I guess I could stay for a couple more days — just to keep you out of trouble.”

You did a great job with A trying to make up her mind coming or going. D was articulate with her rationale and I really like how she stepped up to the plate and being honest. “butch lezzie athlete, then follow me, Butch..babe magnet”? Excellent! What a nightmare it was! Joining HF, next round, plz take with my vaporizer gun, blast it towards Jackie , reduce her to a pile of sand and make her disappear forever and ever. Thank you again, MaGoose. Fantastic!
Well sorry i havent commented before on ur story but i wanted to be caught up before did. I LOVE this story u write it almost perfectly :) I loved so many things about this chapter but my favourite and most touching for me has to be wen Dana puts her hand on Alice to stop her opening the door and breathe please al dont go. Tht was so touching for me i could imagine it so well lol. Well anyways i hate Jackie love Al and Dana cant wait to see where ur story goes next and loving evry word so far please continue. x x
I can’t help but see the strength Dana has right now. And Alice admitting that she’s afraid of Jackie, screaming it no less; that’s some deep stuff. Fight it, Alice. Fight.
Man I needed to stop to get a beer after Al’s nightmare to calm my wee heart..excellent writing and leave it to Alice to be more concerned for Dana then herself, the whole calling Dana a butch was classic it’s nice that they can fall back into the teasing it should help in the long run.
Awww, my poor Alice. I know I say that every time, but I know how it feels to have an appointment with a counselor trigger some nightmares. I’m just glad Dana is such a wall of support right now, and I’m glad she’s not letting Alice leave. They’re so damn cute together, and there were some subtle hints in this one that Alice is still attracted to Dana. Of course it’d be wildly inappropriate for anything like that right now, but it’s nice to know it’s not just Dana. And yeah, you might wanna check on that package. She doesn’t weigh much and might waste away completely by the time she returns to sender. Here’s hoping neither of us get stuck for a long while!
You become angry yourself, that one human can make another person so afraid. Afraid that your friends can or will get hurt. Poor Alice, has forgotten that she has some tough friend,s very classic, but can stand toe to toe with someone that will try to hurt one of them. thanks
hey sorry i havnt commented before but i love this story soo much its one of the best i have read! its up there with “you” and haruka fairbanks i cant actually remember the name! but anyway your doing an amazing job and i hope you keep posting forever!lol you rock ma goose!!
aw, “babe” – now that’s so cute and sweet. I really like this mature Dana. I know some people who think of her as tiny and goofy but nothing else. It almost kinda pisses me off to hear that. I know Dana has depth and she just didn’t have the chance to show much of her persona (aside from being cute and funny) in the show until her last season. So, I really love reading about her in these kinds of situations because i can totally see her being like this and protecting Alice. thanks, very awesome :)
i love this story!! hmm theres a little something somthing in the air that was nice of dana to say about the babe thing.. hmm its hard to be angry at dana for hurting alice before cuz of everything shes doing for her now but i still dnt think it shuld be too easy for dana to get alice back theres alot of proving to be done..as well as kicking jackies stupid ass pps :)
hey, really great chapter! cant wait for the next one.
Aww “you’re all the babe i need” now that is one heck of a line. I just keep feeling more and more sorry for Alice, but thats because your writing is so touching. DANISH!! I’ll tell Jackie where she can stick her sand pillar. Great post =)
Poor Alice. Go dana. “You’re all the babe I need.” Smooth Fairbanks. I have it all planned out. Dana=Baseball Bat. Shane=Scissors Kit=Mic Stand Bette=Sculpting knifey thing. Tina= Annoy her to death. Alice=SHOT GUNWeapon assignments for Jackie’s destruction MAGOOSE I LOVE YOU
NO dana isn’t too perfect, i’m just worried that she will get too worn down emotionally from all this.will the others help to give dana a break? she can’t be with alice 24/7 with this type of emotional stuff going on… great update :)
Poor poor Alice. Hopefully between Dana’s supportive arms and the experience of the counsellor things will start to get better for her. You’re doing such an amazing job with this difficult topic, thanks!
