city of angels-2
“Shane who?” She looked confused.
I could feel my heart stop at the sound of her name. Her face flashed through my head, her smiling, that pout even that cold stare. I hadn’t thought of her for a while, not since I meet Jess.
“Really? Think Alice, who do we know that’s named Shane?” she sounded amused, talking slowly to Alice.
“McCutcheon Oh wow I haven’t heard from her for like two months.” I could feel my heart twinge, when I heard that.
“What are you talking about?” I said it before I could think, “you’ve talked to her?”
To think that Shane had phoned Alice, even after all this time it still hurt. I hadn’t seen her since the wedding that was almost three years ago. I thought that I had gotten over her, that I didn’t feel anything towards her.
“Yeah well she phones once in a while, ever since she opened the new store in New York it’s been less and less.”
That hurt a lot more to hear that she was in New York, to think that she was across the country. So far away, and Jenny had luckily just walked right into her. That she saw her, what she looked like what she was doing. She knew she knew where she was, what she was doing, who she was with. The only thing I knew was that she was gone, that she took my heart with her and she never looked back.
“What did she say?”

The last few days in NY were hectic; Chase had me find replacement and yelled at me when I slept with a couple of the applicants. They were fucking little idiots that didn’t know a thing but they were pretty hot, I went to say good bye to the places that I had hung out at. I gave my apartment away, and packed my bag; I was out of NY within a week of Chase telling me that he wanted me to take over the LA store.
I had never been more nervous than when I stepped on that plane, it wasn’t the fear of flying or even dying because truth be told I died a long time ago. I’m just waiting for my body to die out, and it was taking way to long. What scared me was going home, of facing everything I left behind, all the shit I ran out on and her. I had her in my head since I decided I was going home, I couldn’t get her out, no matter what I tried. I walked in with a duffle bag and went through with a shit load of trouble, the security guards were all over me. Some bullshit about them thinking I had drugs on me, I collapsed in the seat fucking exhausted. I looked for the stewardess; I was willing to do anything for a fucking drink. Some red head a couple seats ahead of me was staring; she was one of the things that were going to distract me on this flight. Anything to get her out of my head, I was going crazy seeing her every where I went, every time I closed my eyes. What scared the shit out of me was that I could and probably would run into her, no matter what people thought LA was really small.

Wow, that was intense! I loved it. The story is written in such a way that you feel exactly what Shane and Carmen are feeling. It’s great, heartbreaking because Shane and Carmen are not truly happy being apart, but great nonetheless.
