She entered the living room.

“… anyway, I live here with my friend, Laura, she’s gay as well. She actually has it for blondes, so you two might hit off. I’m more for redheads and brunettes. Altough I have to admit you look very good, so I might make an exception.”

“I don’t think that’s necessary,” Bette said stifly as she walked towards Tina. Who was this woman, how had she got in here, what did she want from Tina?

She went over to her girlfriend, bent and demonstratively kissed her lips elaborately. She smiled smugly as she got up again and went to sit next to Tina, placing her arm around her favourite blonde’s shoulder and pulling her closer.

“This is Bette Porter, my girlfriend,” Tina smiled. She was relieved that Bette had finally shown up. She had wanted to tell Brenda about her significant other, but the woman was really producing a flood of words all the time. What was it with New Haven and people being curious? This girl was almost like an older sister of Louise, only did she talk too much about herself to be curious about someone else.

Bette extended her hand, producing a very fake smile. She did not like this woman, not at all. 

“I’m Brenda Wood – I live next door? I just met your girlfriend.”

“I can see that,” Bette said, still holding up the fake smile. She now turned to Tina and said: “Remember Paul? He invited us for dinner, I said we’d be there in about an hour.”

Tina had no idea who Paul was, but knew that Bette wouldn’t say this out of the blue. 

“Oh, I better hurry then. I just want to put these” she motioned to the boxes spread across the floor “away and then get ready.”

“I’ll go then,” Brenda smiled. “I guess I will be seeing a lot more of you then?” 

“I’m sure,” Bette answered, already walking towards the door to let Brenda out. “Bye!”

When Bette had closed the door and returned, Tina wrapped her arms around her lover from behind and pulled her close.

“Who’s Paul?”

“No idea. I just didn’t like that woman and wanted to get her out.”

“Well, I’m glad you did. I swear she talks all the time, I’ve got no idea where she keeps getting the words. I was so annoyed but I couldn’t find a reason to throw her out – or make her stop talking so I could say something.”

“I’m glad you’re not too wild about her. She was flirting with you.”

“Was not!”

“Was too.”

“Nuh-uh.”

“I don’t blame her, you’re damn gorgeous. Just make sure I don’t come here to find you two making out or worse, having sex.”

“Bette!” Tina slapped her playfully. “You’re not serious, are you?”

“She looked like a snake to me. I don’t like her at all.”

“Who’s being jealous now?”

“Nobody. I’m only stating the obvious. So you make that promise to me?”

“No, it’s ridiculous. You know it’s not going to happen.”

“If the mere suggestion is so ridiculous, then why don’t you just promise me? Give me some peace of mind?”

“Why can’t you thrust me?”

“I do thrust you. I just want… an extra confirmation?”

“You really need that?”

“It’d be nice.”

“I don’t like Brenda that way. I could never be with her. I only want you, Bette. I’ve wanted you for so long. Do you really think I’d quit my job and move all across the country just to jump at the first lesbian I see?”

“The second.”

“What?”

“Emily’s a lesbian.”

“So, we’re okay?”

Bette nodded happily. “More than okay. Let me show you just how okay we are.”

Tina wiggled her eyebrows, took Bette’s hand and led it to her breast so her girlfriend would feel her protruding nipple. “I sure like the sound of that, ms Porter.”
