Bitter Endings, Sweet Beginnings: Part Five
“We created the classic beginning of a love story,” Jenny piped up,
returning to the conversation, causing Helena and Alice to turn their
focus to the skinny brunette. Leaning back in her seat and waving her
beer bottle in a graceful and strangely fanciful movement of her hand,
she continued, “The bad girl from the wrong side of the tracks with a
heart of gold who has to live most of her life being constantly
misunderstood by those around her. Until one day she meets someone who
can finally see her for the person she really is.”
“Then why is she here?” asked Helena, frowning at this confusing plot
point. “If she’s found someone who can see her for who she is then
shouldn’t she be with that person?”
“They’re not together anymore,” answered Alice, grinning when Helena
focused on her, the frown deepening. “The person who understood her was
her ex-girlfriend, a rich cheerleader who wanted to get involved with
Leather Pants Girl for the thrill of it all, not counting on emotions
to ever play a part in their whirlwind affair.”
“She broke Leather Pants Girls heart,” Helena continued where Alice
left off, speaking with an air of definite understanding. Tilting her
head to one side, she remarked thoughtfully, “But why did the
relationship end? Did the parents discover the affair and react badly?
Or did the cheerleader end it herself?”
“Cheerleader ended it,” said Jenny, taking a drink of her beer. She
nodded her head when she was done and tipped her bottle towards Helena
in acknowledgement of the question. “She was scared of the depth of her
feelings for Leather Pants Girl because this was just supposed to be
some fun experiment for her and when things got too deep, well…”
Jenny shrugged her shoulders by way of further explanation.
“The relationship was severed,” murmured Helena, her eyes lidded as she
focused her attention on Leather Pants Girl who was leaning against the
bar, drinking a beer and looking almost bored with the antics of the
harem of women trying to woo her but was, in Helena’s opinion anyway,
quite kindly putting up with their overly flirtatious attempts. Sighing
softly and looking halfway morose, she murmured, “Poor Leather Pants
Girl.”
“Cheerleader sucks,” Alice declared, resolutely drinking her beer.
“Leather Pants Girl moved here hoping to get a fresh start and to
forget her heartache involving the end of her relationship with
Cheerleader,” said Jenny, giving Helena the final parts of the story
she and Alice had worked out.
