Bitter Endings, Sweet Beginnings: Part Five
Pinky’s
Cabaret wasn’t a discovery that Alice could claim for her own though
she wished desperately she could. Its very existence was pointed out to
her by Jenny who heard about it from Carmen during an absent morning
conversation they were having while waiting for Shane to return with
their bagels. Apparently Pinky’s had been around for years but had only
now become something of a strange ***** and ***** hotspot for the new
DJ it had gained.
DJ Splendiferous Sera was something of a legend in the LA music scene
because of the fact that she didn’t take herself or her music seriously
at all. Sera delighted in playing a nonstop playlist of the strangest
dance music you could imagine and unlike most of her contemporaries,
each bad review her show or latest cd got only served to propel her
further. When her most recent album, Attacking Army of Lawn Gnomes, had
managed to get negative two stars in its LA Times review, Sera simply
copied the part of the article insulting her cd the most as part of the
flyers promoting her latest gig as the new DJ for Pinky’s Cabaret.
Carmen had already gone on opening night to wish Sera good luck but
hadn’t been able to return because apparently that night Shane had
begun twitching on hearing her dance remix of Papa Can You Hear Me from
Yentl then insisted they leave. And ever since, whenever she heard
Sera’s name mentioned the same aforementioned twitching would happen
again.
Something that Jenny had to test out for herself when Shane returned
with the bagels and upon seeing it, declared that it wasn’t so much a
twitch but a facial tick since it was occurring on the hair stylist’s
jaw and not her entire body. Though she did agree with Carmen
completely that it was one of the most adorable things she had ever
seen.
Having seen for herself the almost allergic reaction Shane had to DJ
Sera’s music, Jenny decided that if she wanted to hear it for herself
she would have to go with someone other than Carmen. And go with
someone whom she was sure wouldn’t have an episode similar to Shane’s
and cause her to leave the club before she really got to hear the music.
Which is why Jenny called Alice.
Over the weeks turned into now a full two months and plus of their
friendship Jenny had discovered that the blonde delighted in watching
the very best of bad movies and she figured DJ Sera might be right up
Alice’s alley. The journalist had already heard of Sera and was
thrilled at the chance to see her live. She also hoped this might
become a new drinking ground for her current circle of close friends,
which consisted of Jenny and Helena.

I’m going to kick some serious a$$ if they don’t stop working you so hard. Just tell me who, and you’ve got it. Tell them you have too many fans, checking daily for your wonderful writing to worry about such things like work or school or paying bills. Have you ever heard of Social Programs, they could help pay your bills, so you can devote all your time to us. LOL So glad to see you back, missed your writing. I’ve said it before; let me be the president of the Dreiser Fan club.
