    Bette’s Dilemma-The Lines are Drawn

Now she lay sleepless with her mind unable to stop trying to find a way to prevent Monique from destroying her. God Porter! Forget out of the frying pan into the fire you’ve thrown yourself into a fucking furnace! Tina was most likely right about what Monique wanted in return for the information she had gathered on Jodie as well as what she wanted in return for her silence. It was this that made Bette the most nervous. Monique had tried at first when she had left and never returned to contact her. She had always returned the letters unopened to sender and had blocked Monique’s number from her phone. Eventually, she had understood that it had been love or something Bette had believed to be love that had made it possible to do what she had done for her but the very act of rescuing her had been the destruction of their relationship–revulsion had consumed all that had been there. Yet, on the phone Bette had heard the desire so thinly veiled beneath the words–the same yet different, keener, more fine tuned more mature than in years past. Monique had changed and Bette’s earlier meeting with her had only confirmed that the years since they had seen each other had created a woman not used to accepting no for an answer.

The meeting at the Purple Parrot was going to be perhaps one of her biggest challenges ever— an all or nothing venture literally. She was used to high odds and high stakes. They were nothing new to her but it was all so different when the odds and the stakes were your own and not that of an art gallery or some company. It had taken her way too long to realize that the most meaningful things in life were not what you accomplished but who you were, who you loved and what you left for the future written in character not objects. Finally she understood and it could be destroyed so very easily with just one misstep!

"Bette…. honey are you alright? Why are you awake?"

Tina’s sudden quiet concerned question sliced the latest circling fear in half as Tina lifted herself up on her elbow to look down into Bette’s face.

    1. Hmmmm…. not sure what Monique thinks she can use against Bette, but I bet there is not another thing Bette has done in her life to match what Tina already knows or could change Tina’s mind.

    2. It is not so much what Jodi can say to discourage Tina that is the issue but rather the damage she can do to Bette’s reputation and professional life that is concerned. Employers would not necessarily look favourably on their curator or professor having such a lurid past

    3. I hope Monique doesn’t try to blackmail Bette into sleeping with her using the info she got on Jodie for her. Bette already saved her life once by sacrificing herself. I think she is so underestimating Tina and is in for a rude awakening at the meeting.

    4. I thought that Monique wanted to even the score, but if she goes through with what she has planned then the score is not even. She is still using Bette to gain the advantage. I hope that Bette and Tina are strong enough to overcome this bump in the road.

    5. I am glad that Bette and Tina are united after Bette’s revelation of her past. I can’t wait to see the wrath of Tina Kennard come down upon Monique. Monique really is mentally unstable if she believes she is any different than the men who brutallized Bette for her crimes, I don’t think she has learned a thing in her life.
