Bette’s Dilemma-Pandora’s Envelope
Bette found herself returning to the living room with a cup of lemon tea for each of them as just as Tina finished the last of the sordid tale. Wordlessly she slipped quietly down beside her lover, placing Tina’s cup on the coffee table in front of her. It was obvious by the faint hint of moisture on Tina’s lashes that she had also understood some of Hodie’s motivation for her deception and the enormitity of the decison that faced Bette and ultimately her as well. Setting the pages down Tina turned to face Bette,
"God Bette, what happened to her is disgusting…horrible. I can’t blame her too much for wanting to well start new, change escape such a brutal reality. At the same time it’s so dishonest. You had no idea?"
Shaking her head , fighting back the rising anger born of hurt that threatened to destroy her ability to think clearly Bette answered, "No, not consciously. Now that I look back there were times where I wondered–Hodie would respond to something I said that I forgot to sign and she wasn’t fully facing me, subtle looks that seemed like she would understand when she shouldn’t have been able to but they never really registered."
Reaching out Tina clasped Bette’s hands in hers while she caressed the tops gently as she spoke, "What are you going to do with this Bette?"
"I don’t know Tina. One part of me wants to expose her, destroy the glass house she has built up around herself. How dare she do what she’s done to me professionally when this has happened to her! Another part of me wants to confront her privately, offer her a chance to withdraw her accusations to set things straight in whatever way she chooses. I don’t want this on my conscious forever–that I am the one who has brought this to light. But I won’t allow her to destroy my life either. I want to set up a meeting with her for tommorrow and I would like you to be there Tina. I want her to know that I am not the only one that knows this. I also want this to appear as above board as possible. I don’t need any more accusations. Would you be willing to do this for me, for us?"
Bending her head to meet Bette’s hands where they lay clasped in her lap Tina kissed the each knuckle before she spoke, "I thought you knew I would be willing to do anything for us after today Ms. Porter." Remembering back to what seemed to be days ago but was only that afternoon at the Purple Parrot Bette could not help but smile.
"I know you would baby, thank you for everything–I…."
"Shhh, Enough for now, let tommorrow worry about tommorrow for now."
"Come here" Bette sensed more than heard Tina’s whispered command and as she opened her arms Bette allowed herself to slide into their comfort as they both melted into the softness of the couch and the safety of their love.

Leesa excellent as always!! ca n’t wait for bette to give it to jodie!!
B&T as a team will always win their battles. It is when their decisions have been one sided, that they have lost the challenges in life. Next: The confrontation to Jodi. Wow! That will be very difficult to handle in a cool manner. Both need to outsmart Jodi. Otherwise, her manipulating character will instigate the pity from others in order to punish Bette. Thanks for this magnificent update. PPS. – Lucero & Marsha – From Mexico City
Do u mean to call her Hodie? Anyway I have ‘a lot’ (note 2 words not one) of sympathy for Jodie and can see how she’d use the deafness to benefit herself. Bette is generous & possibly very wise to allow Jodie the chance to back off however I suggest Bette gets that in writing & that she hands Phylis & the authorities at the University a copy of Monique’s report just to make sure she doesn’t continue this charade elsewhere.
You write well.
Sometimes I wish that I could hide from my past. Bette has the ammunition to stop jodi from destroying her life. I hope that when Bette takes this information to jodi that she will back off and Bette does not have to reveal what Monique has dug up.
Ok, I am sorry for Jodie’s past and all that happened to her; but, Bette… Squash that b*tch like bug! She’s trying to ruin your life and career. Have no mercy for her. She obviously has none for you. Expose her mother%^$%ing @ss. I would; because she’s p*ssed me off.
Now, that’ I’ve managed to calme myself down a bit, I’ll advise Bette to gshare the information with her and give her the chance to retract her statements about Bette. If she refuses… see above comment. =)
LOL Emae29. Let tomorrow take care of tomorrow…what great advise. :) You did a fantastic job with this chapter, thank you!

This saying fits your story. People that live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Glad that Tina will be with Bette when she confronts Jodie. I think Jodie will feel that she can talk her way out of it with Bette, but she hasn’t had to deal with Tina the Tornado yet. Great story and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Thanks!
Emae29 thank you for your very honest and human reaction. Having readers react so strongly to what I’ve writte encourages me that although this is just fiction it is doing something more. Helping us to think about life
I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I just knew she was lying about her disability. Emae29 is right, squash her like the f’ing bug she is. Good riddance. Can hardly wait to see what happens next. PPS
To live a lie for so many yrs. I dont want Bette career wasted,Nor should Jodie, she she should be given the chance to retract her statements. Are Bette will show the paper to the board menbers. We know she didnt give Bette the chance{sour grapes} but Bette and Tina are bigger people. thanks
I really feel sorry for Jodie, poor woman she had to go through all of that, but that doesn’t give her the right to destroy someones life just because things didn’t working the way she wanted them, she should be more understanding, Bette should go with option B and meet her and tell her to withdrawal the accusations. Thanks dear, you have a great story going here.
I can see why Bette wouldn’t want to dredge the past up on Jodi, but Jodi brought this on herself. I am glad for Bette’s sake that she is going to give Jodi an option on the outcome.
