Helena tossed and turned in bed, thinking of her previous interaction with Alice.

Of course I do not have a crush on her! Shes just a friend! Helena denied indignantly.

Right, I believe you. Alice said in droll tones. Have you noticed the way you looked at her? Your face always brightens up when shes around.

I cant control the way you perceive my facial expressions, but I swear I didnt behave any differently from I would to the rest! Helena was agitated.

She shrugged, Well, ask Shane, she saw it too.

What have you guys been gossiping behind my back? Gosh, I really cant imagine. Helena was horrified at the amount of concern the gang took in her personal life.

Alice continued, What about the many things you did just to impress her? For the 1 year Ive known you, I havent seen you do the same for all the other people you know.

Look, I helped to finance and plan Shane and Carmens wedding, and I even gave her redneck daddy 10 grand for the wedding gift, completely wasted, I must add. I cant help it that Im generous by nature. Helena sighed, thinking of the chain of events that led to her current financial status. She was not broke, since she still had the couple of millions Dylan returned. However, being cut off from the billions her mother commanded meant that she had to exercise much more prudence in her spending, and that she had less power to turn the tides in her favor.

How about the many people you spoke to before you were finally able to contact the senator? Spending countless nights thinking of a strategy for the case? Seeking the opinion of numerous divorced gay couples before you short-listed the best lawyer to introduce to Bette? Then presenting all of it to her, like it was no big deal at all? Noticing the change in tone of Helenas voice, Alice added softly.  Youre my friend, Helena; the only thing I want for you is to be happy with the person you love. Nothing can change that.
