    Author Notes:

    She knew that tone of voice. It was the Fairbanks ‘this is how it is going to be’ voice. The redhead was a little surprised to hear it off the court though. “Go on.”

     

    When she finally finished, Dana was exhausted but happy to have it all out there for once.

     

    What she didn’t expect was a playful punch from her friend.

     

    “Hey what was that for?”

     

    “For not telling me sooner you dope! Jeez, if I would have known I would have tried to fix you up with the captain of the cheerleading team instead of the football team. God, all the whining I had to listen to from Brian. ‘Why doesn’t Dana want to go out again? I thought she had fun’ … yadda… yadda… yadda. So uncool.”

     

    Chuckling at her friend, “As hot as Samantha Turner looks in that skirt, there is no way I am dating anyone. As far as everyone is concerned, I am very much dedicated to tennis and too busy for dating.”

     

    “You are going to tell your parents though, right?”

     

    “One day… hopefully. Once I make Pro and I’m the best and then maybe… but not now. And you cannot tell anyone, promise.”

     

    “I promise, but you’re making a mistake about not telling you parents. They love you, they aren’t going to care you’re a little light in the tennis racquet.”

     

    “Light in the tennis racquet? What the hell in are you talking about?”

     

    “Well, you don’t wear loafers so I can’t say you’re ‘light in the loafers.’ Oh, do you prefer the term lesbian or gay or  maybe lezbo,” the redhead continued with a smile to let her friend know she was just kidding with her?

     

    Before Dana could reply, another Fairbanks came on the scene.

     

    “LEZBOOOOOOOOOOOOOO,” Howie yelled jumping in the pool, splashing the two teens.

     

    “Howie,” the girls yelled.

     

    When he came up to the surface, Howie asked, “Dana, what is a lezbo?”

     

    “It is just a stupid word Jamie made up.. right Jamie?”

     

    “Totally, it is so stupid,” Jamie confirmed.

     

    “Oh,” the youngest Fairbanks replied. Then he began to sing, “Dana is a lezbo…Dana is a lezbo… Dana is a lezbo…”

     

    Jamie let out a howl of laughter, before being pushed into the pool by an gumpy Dana.

     

    Sputtering, the redhead called after her friend as she made her way into the house, muttering about getting a bell for her brother’s neck. Or a pair of cement shoes.

    PS: A little teaser for Chapter 6-

    “Oh..hi.. Alice.. that’s a name… I mean a nice name..a..yeah. Hi.” That’s a nice name? What the hell are you saying? Find a topic to talk about Fairbanks before she thinks you’re a weirdo! “So do you go to school here?”

    1. I officially love Jamie. She’s the best friend ever. I’m so glad that, in spite of everything, Dana kept improving her game and also she managed to graduate a year early, like she was planning to. I can totally understand that she feels like she’s suffocating and needs to get out of town. And, judging by the little (Danish) teaser, she will probably choose the best college possible :biggrin: You are doing an amazing job :) Can’t wait till you get back! Have a safe trip!

    4. Again: Incredible job in describing Dana’s feelings. Love that Dana is finally taking some control back in her life. I’m so happy that Dana confided in Jamie and that Jamie was so cool about it. It’s sad that she feels she needs to go pro and be the best before telling her parents. I can understand where she is coming from, though. Hopefully Howie won’t squeal. The teaser was great. Yay, Danish! Thanks so much for the great chapter! I hope your trip goes well. Travel safe.

    5. Oh goody, i came home from a dreadful doc appointment and got to read some awesome DanaNess? With the possibility of some DanishNess? Excellent that Dana finally got to vent to someone and i’m glad that Jamie was there for her, frickin Howie, someone needs to hold his head under the water!
