    Becoming Dana Fairbanks Chapter 5

    Chapter 5

“Hey, it’s not like I am complaining about having my best friend around this summer. I just don’t understand why you don’t want to go to tennis camp this summer. You love that place,” Jamie said float on a raft in her friend’s pool.

It was a beautiful day, they had taken their last exam that morning, and for the first time in forever Dana had no training on her agenda for the day.

“I just have too much to do this summer. I’m going to be at tournaments almost every other weekend, plus I’m going to do the college visits…”

“Can I once again say how much I hate the fact you will be graduating a year a head of me?”

    “No”

Adjusting her sunglasses, the redhead continued,“Well I am gonna say it anyway. It sucks and I for one want to veto the plan. It’s not right to take away your senior year.”

Initially, she agreed with her friend’s assessment. But Dana was tired and she finally saw a light at the end of this tunnel she had been stuck in the past few months. Rolling her head one her own raft she looked at Jamie.

The petit redhead had been her best friend for years and had been particularly awesome the past few months.

The weeks following the night on the track with Coach Hall had been so difficult. She was so scared he was going to tell her parents. But he never mentioned it, not even to her.

The season passed quickly, culminating with the State Championship Tournament just a week ago. Dana was unshakable in every single match. Going up against hefty competition, it was Fairbanks that emerged victorious at the end of the weekend leading her team to its first State Championship.

    All was calm.

A status quo seemed to be in place.

    Fuck the status quo.

Feeling confident off the court wasn’t something that came easily for the brunette. She always felt that she was always on the outside, as if everyone had this kind of inside information that didn’t get passed on to the busy teen.

But winning, changed that, although usually only for a few days. This time however it was different. She had set out to achieve a goal months ago, and through hard work did it. Why can’t everything work that way?

    1. I officially love Jamie. She’s the best friend ever. I’m so glad that, in spite of everything, Dana kept improving her game and also she managed to graduate a year early, like she was planning to. I can totally understand that she feels like she’s suffocating and needs to get out of town. And, judging by the little (Danish) teaser, she will probably choose the best college possible  You are doing an amazing job :) Can’t wait till you get back! Have a safe trip!

    2. Somehow, it is easier to comment after others have already said pretty much I wanted to convey. Yes, thank you Jamie for being such a good friend. Like pandakse, I am equally excited to see A’s appearance. Can’t wait to see how A & D finally met. Keep up the good work and wishing you a safe trip too. Thank you, anionayo!

    3. Again: Incredible job in describing Dana’s feelings. Love that Dana is finally taking some control back in her life. I’m so happy that Dana confided in Jamie and that Jamie was so cool about it. It’s sad that she feels she needs to go pro and be the best before telling her parents. I can understand where she is coming from, though. Hopefully Howie won’t squeal. The teaser was great. Yay, Danish! Thanks so much for the great chapter! I hope your trip goes well. Travel safe.

    4. Oh goody, i came home from a dreadful doc appointment and got to read some awesome DanaNess? With the possibility of some DanishNess? Excellent that Dana finally got to vent to someone and i’m glad that Jamie was there for her, frickin Howie, someone needs to hold his head under the water! LoL Thanks for the new chapter before you go on your trip, be safe and hurry back to us! Thank You anionayo!
