Anatomy of a Breakdown Chap 3
“I have something I need to tell you.” Bette stares at her for a bit noticing the vein in Tina’s neck rapidly pulsing. ‘Hmmm… her neck is pulsing… could she be… no there’s no way she could be pregnant.’ Bette thinks to herself.
“Bette are you listening?”
‘Her face does look a bit fuller, she’s glowing.’ She continues to stare at Tina in silence.
“Huh? Oh yeah I’m listening.”
“Okay well Bette I think you should know…” Bette interrupts Tina mid sentence.
“Tina this is crazy but are you pregnant?” Tina is caught completely off guard by Bette’s question.
“How did you know Bette?”
“Tina I’ve shared seven years of my life with you. I know you’re face and body and skin better than I know my own. I realize we haven’t been together for months now but I still feel you.” Bette smiles then it dawns on her that Tina is actually pregnant. ‘Why had she not told her? How many months pregnant is she?’ The questions drop into her mind one by one. Tina can see the worry begin to rise in Bette’s eyes.
“Bette…” She says trying to bring her back into this reality.
“When Tina?”
“I found out the day of the Provocations opening.” Bette’s mind rushes from guilt to anger to sadness and back to guilt. She then looks back at the their final moment together, ‘had she hurt the baby?’
“Oh Tina, I’m so… I’m sorry.” The tears fall from the brunettes eyes. “I’m sorry for that night. I hope I didn’t. Did I?” Bette’s sparse words are not lost to Tina.
“No, the baby is fine. Wonderful and growing and kicking” A small smile finds its way to both women.
“How far along are you?” Bette approaches the conversation treading softly.
“Six and a half months.”
“Do you know what it’s going to be?”
“Yes, a girl.” Bette nods, a baby girl sure to have Tina’s smile.
“And you used Marcus?”
“Yes, I thought we would still be… well together.” Tina’s voice cracks as the tears begin to escape. Bette reaches over to hold Tina’s hand. Tina attempts to move away but instead allows herself a moment of comfort from the only woman she has ever seen sharing her life with.

You can’t stop there! Bette needs to tell Tina why she went to San Fran. and how she went there to think of them when they were happy together and just keep going from where you left off, it was getting so good. PPS
Valenkat is so right. As for using the info, you are more thnwelcome to use any info I have, just happy that you could and wanted to use it. Happy to oblige. Hopefully Tina will find it in her heart to forgive Bette and trust her again. Love does erase a lot of faults and makes us blind to some things that we should see. But when it is the love of our life doing whatever, we tend to put it aside or ignore it altogether, until something happens that stuns us and then we can’t act except irrationally and that is ususally the wrong thing to do. Thanks for posting. PPS

Hello denEmat… I am probably alone in my personal views here but I feel it would be best for Bette to take a step back and absorb this information… leave the next move to Tina and kind of separate herself from the whole… I always saw Bette as an escapist… someone that suffers strongly from her abandonment issues… I loved how her short trip to San Fran allowed her some clarity but since she is no longer tied down to her job… and yes she has friends and a possible future with Tina I would love to see Bette cut out and discover who “she” is… “How could I have claimed to love you if I couldn’t even see you” what I want to know is… how can Bette even think of getting to know Tina if she doesn’t even know herself… I love the idea of Bette being let loose… maybe take another trip to Europe… Italy and regain her sense of self and a better appreciation for art and beauty that way she will allow Tina the time to either move on or make any moves to seeing where they might take their lives… you are doing an amazing job my friend… completely amazing… Sincerely, JC (Latin Nephew to those Salsa Angels and ever loving Cuzzie to the ever Talented Eunichick)
Wow, the last statement was so true. Bette looked right past Tina for to long. Maybe now they can rebuild their friendship and go from there.
well at least they talked and the table it get turned over… i think tina sees a different bette… now bette has to prove herself… baby steps… thanks…PPS
very nice rewriting of the story! I can’t wait for the rest;-) It’s awesome.
Not old fashion romatic.Just show in small way that most people forget to do.. The talking is a must, Send her a letter telling her how beautiful she was today. Talk about the beautiful of the flower in the park. Discuss how Bette can to be a better person not only to Tina to to other. Bette can say I.m sorry til hell freezes over, Let her learn to walk the walk with Tina. and just show her love for her. thanks
You’ve done a wonderful job of writing a rhythm to B&T’s dialog… the only awkwardness is where it should be, in the response between the characters dealing with difficulties. Very good job! SK/C
