A Space Between: Bette, Tina and their Primordial Buddha, Chapter Three
“You’ll rest better in the window seat.”
“You’re giving up the window?” Tina asked, wonder in her voice.
”Come on.” Bette pulled Tina up.
Tina shifted over and settled in.
“Aren’t you afraid I might get to like the window?”
“Then every time we board we’ll be jostling each other down the aisle to get there first. Security will remove both of us and we’ll go home and drink margaritas to drown our sorrows about our missed trip.”
“Not a chance. I’ll blame the jostling on you and give them my innocent look. They’ll remove you, not me.”
“I’ll give them my innocent look, too.”
“Babe, you don’t have an innocent look. Intimidating. Dismissive. Pouty. Smoldering. But not innocent.”
“You’d go without me?”
“Yep. But I’d call every day.”
“I wouldn’t take your calls.”
“Yes you would.” Tina grinned at Bette.
######
Bette woke with a start, momentarily confused by her surroundings. Remembering, she looked to her left and smiled at the sight of Tina sleeping soundly. The business class pods were too far apart to allow even their hands to touch while they slept, but Tina had stretched a blanket over the gap so that it reached both of them, maintaining a connection.
Bette snuggled into her own pod and watched Tina, spotting the tiny line of drool that escaped from her lips down her chin. She knew to never ever acknowledge to her lover that the blonde sometimes had a line of spittle traveling to her pillow, just as Tina knew to never mention that Bette sometimes gently snored as she slept. They had the kind of tacit agreement that lovers make about such private things.
Bette thought about their cab ride to the airport.
“T, I don’t know. Ten days?”
“It will be good for you. A complete change.”
“Where exactly are we going? What hotels did you arrange? Transportation? I don’t speak Chinese, do you? Do you know what dialect we need? I think I can get a language CD at the airport. Did you pack the Walkman? What’s the temperature there?” Bette was getting more and more agitated.

I just caught this installment. It’s nice. I’ll have to check out the rest. Plus I give Tina props for planning; they probably would have had trouble getting Bette’s hair products in Beijing.
I truly enjoyed seeing this special moment in time. I hope you change history as you write and bring the love and priority to one another with them into later days. PHENOMENAL chapter!
finally, continuation of this story…i agree with bailey about some sadness knowing what had become of tibette later but i could see how perfect they were together, no matter what
I miss this story. I hope you’ll post soon, Spumoni.
Beautifully written, but with an undertone of sadness knowing what we know will become of this couple. Tina’s wishful thinking that Bette will have more free time now that she works for the CAC. Makes you want to reach back in time and rewrite some of their history…which I hope you do :)
Hey your muse isn’t all that’s been MIA! Check the mailbox dude! I like this story, even with the Tina factor, because it shows her thinking about Bette and caring about her feelings, and also not depending on Bette for everything. I wonder what Bette wrote on the Alphaville thing? It’s kind of cool that they each can use their professional skills to help each other like that.
Fantastic to see you posting! I adore your playful, flirty, sexy, so-in-love Bette and Tina. Your muse has most definitely returned.
” Long time no post! My muse abandoned me. Maybe, After reading this, you may think she is still ” Muse seems great!… ;-)
Well I’ll Be!! You’ve posted again! I think you’re Muse is in perfectly working order! This was awesome update and I can’t wait to see what Bette contributed to Tina’s business plans!
Very nice – love their interaction on the plane – so cute. Let’s see what happens next. Do post soon
