    B&T chapter 25

     

    “I’m curious why isn’t she here with you Bette?”

     

    “Things happen that we can’t control Samantha she wanted to be here, but something very important came up”

     

    “More important than you?”

     

    Bette chuckled and shook her head side to side

     

    “She didn’t think it was, but I did, so I convinced her not to come” Bette was now getting irritated and she was eager to open the box, she wanted Samantha to leave.

     

    “So aren’t you going to open it?”  Samantha asked

     

    “If you don’t mind I rather open it in private” Bette smiled

     

    “Of course, I’ll leave this here for you then let me know if you have any question or don’t understand my notes”

     

    “Sure thing, thanks again” Bette said

     

    “Happy Birthday again”

     

    “Thank you”

     

    As soon as Samantha left Bette opened the envelope that was attached to the box.

    Bette swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat, she felt tears sting her eyes, as she opened the box, she found an even smaller box inside she opened the box and in it she found a beautiful platinum engraved locket hanging on an equally beautiful platinum chain. Bette opened it and inside was a picture of her and Tina, she had her head resting on Tina’s shoulder as she smiled, Tina had her cheek resting on  Bette’s head. She remembered Alley had taken the picture when they were over her and Steve’s house for a get together Bette remembered telling Tina how she loved this picture when she first saw it. On the other side of the open locket there were the letters F, L & F elegantly engraved.

     

    Bette felt the tears run down her face as she stared at the picture.

     

     Bette was feeling so lonely right now, she needed Tina like she’s never needed anyone before, Tina had made Bette open her heart, and Tina had poured all this love into it, that sometimes she just overflowed with emotions, it was territory Bette was not very familiar with, she was brought up not to show emotion. Melvin had always told Bette emotion was a sign of weakness. Bette never showed that side of herself to anyone but Tina.
