    A Deeper Song, post 24

“What the…” Tina blinked she was drenched. Where did all that water come from?  Bette looked down at her in shock.  Her water had just broken. A slow smile spread over her face. “We’re having a baby, babe.”

Bette and Tina had put the birthing tank in a corner of the master bedroom of the home Bette had made with Rosanna. After calling the midwife Tina called Kit, Alice and Shane.  Angelica was at school and as the process would take hours she decided not to interrupt her day.  She and Bette were also concerned about Angie hearing Bette in pain.  It was fortuitous that Bette went into labor so early in the day.

Within an hour the midwife, Alice, Shane and Kit had arrived. The first few hours went smoothly.  Tina and Marissa deputized Kit, Alice and Shane and they took over for Tina while she showered and took short breaks over the course of the day.  Shane initially stood as far away from Bette as she could. After a particularly strong contraction Bette wanted to walk around the room.

“Shane” she called “can you help me up.”  Shane was there in an instant. Kit took her other arm and Alice dropped the birthing robe over her.  Shane discovered that she liked Bette leaning on her and she quickly became attuned to Bette’s labor, telling her when to breathe and to squeeze her hand. After a time Shane confessed that this ‘natural thing’ was kind of cool.

The three women developed a rhythm together separate from Tina who was clearly in charge and flew solo with Bette. Julianne kept the food simple and light so that they snacked well in between their time coaching Bette. Angus and Tasha came over and stayed in the family room. Helena joined Tasha and Angus at Alice’s insistence; ‘Porter cannot harm you while giving birth.’ Alice cut through her reluctance. Denise hearing that Ms. Bette was in labor could not stay away and hung out in the kitchen with Julianne who she liked very much.  Oliver the manny chosen from the service that Rosanna’s parents insisted on sauntered in and out of the birthing room annoying Julianne and Denise to no end.

    1. Have I mentioned that I love this story. Didn’t think I would as it started with Ro, and then a death. but I look everyday for an update and this was beautiful. Brilliant touches with all the characters, uncomfortable Shane, scared for her life Helena, Tina’s jealousy (?) then love for Rowan. Thanks for posting before your vacation.

    2. Dear Kelika,That was so beautiful–a moving birth. I like that this story has dealt so amazingly well with the love two women can share with each other AND the profound meaning childbirth and child rearing has for women.

    3. Hey Kelika, That was so sweet and heartfelt. Good to see Bette and Tina talking so openly about Rosanna and her family. Rowan is perfect; a little slice of heaven. I would like to see this end with Bette and Tina marrying. Having them make that committment would just be sublime. Many thanks for this emotive tale. Your Loyal Fan.

    4. So glad you wrote te actual birth of Rowan. Very well done. Will hate to see this end, but I’m sure there are other B&T stories just waiting to be written by you. Have a great vacation.

    5. K, that was very Beautiful and so loving. Thank you I am so loving this story. I hate to see it end. But most Great things do. Thank you again so much.

    6. K, that was so beautiful. I went back this weekend and reread Even in the Quietest Moments, just to refresh my memory and I could barely tear myself away of this computer. You have a way of keeping everyone’s attention and you just can’t stop reading until it’s over. Anyway, I’m just trying to say that I love all your stories and I can’t wait for more. Have a great vacation!

    7. Kel.. what a moving story and birth… great update women job well done keep up the great work and thanks for sharing it with ur fans. post soon sweetie.:)))

    8. Beautiful. That first glimpse had to be hard for Tina, but Rowan is a part of Bette, thus Tina will love him as she does Bette, and Angelica. That is with every fiber of her being. Glad to see Bette reassurring her that though she misses Ro, her love for Tina is unquestionable.
