    A crush, a meeting htne love?? – Chapter 59

    Chapter 59

Bette has been given a bed in Tina’s room on Tina’s request. Tina falls asleep holding Bette’s hand. Bette couldn’t sleep, she almost lost Tina today, and she was still scared, but also angry at herself for keeping her background from Tina and because of that Tina might now be paralyzed. She started to cry. Tina was out like a light because of all the medication.

During the night Bette never let go of Tina’s hand. She can’t seem to stop crying either.

Early next morning, Chris comes walking in. Bette is now seated next to the bed, still holding Tina’s hand.

“Bette, hi.” Chris says, making Bette jump in her chair.

“Oh Chris, hi.” Bette says. She let go of Tina’s hand for the first time. She stands up and hugs Chris.

    “How is she?” He asks.

“She’s paralyzed from the waist down. Hopefully it’s not permanent.” Bette says as she starts to cry again.

    “Oh my God.” He replies.

Chris walks over to the bed and takes Tina’s hand in his.

“How did this happen?” He asks as she looks sadly down on his little sister.

    Bette takes a deep breath.

“We had a fight Because of me, she drove off crying.” Bette lets out.

“A fight? Could I ask what about?” He asks curiously. Bette blinks her eyes a little. “Sorry, it’s none of my business.” He says after a few seconds.

“It’s okay. I never told her that I am biracial. My father was black.” She says and waits for his reaction.

“You never told her? How could you not tell her that, you guys are marrying each other for Gods sakes.” Chris says in a raised angry voice. This makes Tina open her eyes. But they don’t see that.

“I never meant to hurt her. Dad has been dead for a long time, it’s just that I never thought about it.” Bette replies as tears again streams down her cheek.

Tina closes her eyes again, listening to the conversation.

“Yeah, well you did, and now you have to live with the consequences.” Chris says still in an angry voice. His eyes are watering up as well.

“Don’t you think I know that? I won’t be able to forgive myself for this.” Bette says and drops back down in the chair, bending over and cries hard.

    1. This was great! I have been enjoying your story so much that I spent the weekend reading them all over from the start. It’s even better when read together. I really love how Tina stood up for Bette, in spite of everything. I can see how Bette might forget to mention something like that, since her father had died a long time ago. These two have a strong love which will survive anything. I hope T gets well soon and that she is not paralyzed permanently.

    2. im i first??? yep..lol..ok im sad..who the fuck Cris think he is?? where the hell have he been when Tina needed him the most? and now he just go there for a doctor visit? Bette is the only one there to help and suport Tina and about the black white thing i dont know why Tina is upset she was the one who said awful things….ok another great chapter i hope Tina get better soon i cant take see her i a hospital bed like this thanks Lauren :o(

    3. now the way i read it… bette didn’t lie to her… she just never told her she was biracial… and to me thats not lying… and chris needed to lighten up… bette is beating her self up enough… love your story…please continue

    4. Lauren..thanks for the chapter. I’m glad Tina stood up (no pun intended)to Chris on Bette’s behalf. It was an accident…and yes, Bette & Tina need to talk. They need to settle this once and for all so that the healing can begin.

    5. OK..I am not going to throw a fit because you left us like that…but I will pout a little. nice chapter and I am glas that Tina told Chris that he was in the wrong. post when you can!

    6. God, you’re such a tease Lauren : just when I wasn’t available these days, you so quickly posted few chapters, making me feel pretty frustrated for having miss my usual comments !
… but you punished me enough, now I read all these last chapters together, breaking my heart this way with such a tragic string of circumstances…
My goodness, could one imagine something worst than suffering of so cruel guilt’s feelings about the one we love more than anything else ? What an unbearable mental torture, what an emotional tragedy…
And all of this because a particularly silly mutual misunderstanding ! How unfair… but, well, life is so often pretty unfair – alas…
And as if the guilt wasn’t cruel enough, here comes an acurate fear, an awful waiting to bear before to know what will happened.
That’s where I’m so grateful to you for having letting us know that things will be better later ! I know, it’s such a childish relief but, well, even if I always enjoy good drama twists, my romantic heart cannot help but cry – so it’s great to have more than a hope here.

How beautiful is the picture you gave us here : Bette spending the night in a bed next to Tina, holding her hand… Beautiful. Truly touching…

Hmm… Even if I can understand how Chris’ shock made him react so agressively, I cannot help but thinking that somewhere he took this opportunity to express a hidden animosity against her sister’s lover. Perhaps unconsciously, deep inside of him, he wasn’t truly able to accept their relationships ? I wonder… (Well, it’s also weird and tough to go away this way, so quickly, instead of staying at least few days to support Tina, I think…)
Tina’s reaction was perfect here, taking her brother aside to clearly demand him to show more respect for Bette. Whatever Tina thinks about theit fight, it’s strictly her business. (By the way, I didn’t understand why she feels that Bette lied to her when she simply didn’t speak about this biracial stuff before…)

As I also wonder if this so painful event couldn’t just be the ideal opportunity for Jack Kennard – well, if ever he will come to see her, of course – to open his eyes on the reality and deepth of her daughter’s love affair. Seeing Bette’s huge sorrow and care, as well as the vital support she’s giving to Tina, could help him to realize that some prejudices need to be definitly erased…

In waiting Bette and Tina’s talk, I thank you once more a LOT for your story, Lauren ! I love it – and you know that.

    7. just another great chapter and i totally agree with pandora Cris have to right to talk to Bette like that and m happy Tina set Cris in his place to respect Bette,i truly hope Tina get better soon the have such a happy life hope post when you can thank you

    8. Great chapter! Glad that Tina set Chris straight, about how he talked to Bette. I mean, him of all people, who neglected to tell his wife that he had another sister, has the gull to speak to Bette in that way. Boy, how soon they forget. I’m glad that Tina realizes that Bette is sincere in her love and that her neglect wasn’t done on purpose. Can’t wait for your next post.
