Your secret is safe with me – (Chapter: I can't believe that I'm here right now)

Well I thought I knew what the definition of awkward was, but that was before I sat down at the Davies family table. Unlike my family dinners no one seems to really communicate with each other, they all seemed pretty content with eating in silence. So I was cautious of trying to strike up a conversation. From the information that Aiden had given me it appeared that each person fit their description.

Mr. Davies who was seating straight up in his chair appeared to be deep in thought, looking the part of the worn down music mogul. Who built all of his family’s fortune through blood sweat and tears. It was also easily apparent that he wore the pants in this family. Due to how frequently Mrs. Davies seemed to glance at him for his approval to her every move. Christine as she had asked me to call her also had the tell tale sign of being worn down and stressed out but she still managed to put off a air of kindness. I think she noticed me watching her and decided to speak up.

“Well Spencer Aiden talks about you all the time dear, he tells us that you are on the soccer team.”

“Yes, I have being play soccer for almost all of my life” I replied “That good to hear getting involved with school activities keeps kids on the right path I think”, Mrs. Davies responded “That’s why my husband and I pushed Aiden so hard with his basketball .”

“More liked forced” I heard Ashley whisper under her breath.”

“What was that Ashley do you have something to share with the whole table” Mr. Davies asked

“No sir I was just wondering if I could be excused to my room”

“I don’t see why not you’re not doing much here but taking up space, but make sure you clean your plate before you go up there. And you better be doing something productive not fooling around with those stupid drawings you have been making.”

    “Of course”

    “Of course what?”

    “Sir”

“Much better now get going” Ashley quickly picked up her barely picked at plate and disappeared through a pair of swing door which I assume lead to the kitchen.  As dinner went on the conversation focused mostly on my family and school life and how Aiden’s day had gone. After about a half an hour of the mindless questions I excused myself to go to the bathroom.  Aiden had offered to show me the way but I was determined to find it myself with the detailed directions Mr. Davies had given me. As I made my way up the stairs I heard a faint sound of music coming from the room at the end of the hall that had light shining through the crack underneath the door. The song was familiar but I couldn’t place it as I realized I had already passed the bathroom in my intent of figuring out where I had heard the song before.

Once it clicked in my head that this was the same song I heard walking passed the music room every day before first period. I noticed I had my ear leaning up against the already cracked open door. Which with my extra body weight managed to push it open even more till where I could see directly into the room. My eyes first came upon the top of a head of curly brown hair peeking out over the far side of the bed. I knew that those curls could only belong to one person, Ashley and I had obviously invaded her personal space by entering her room. But as much as I tried I couldn’t stop my feet from carrying me over to the bed. Where I saw Ashley seating Indian style on the floor with an expansive looking black guitar, strumming away while humming the mesmerizing tune softly with her eyes closed. Before I knew it, I too had sat down Indian style a crossed from her till where our knees were almost touching.  Closing my eyes I allowed the melody to consume me, no longer feeling the anxiety in the pit of my stomach.

“What are you doing in here “How could I have been so unaware to not notice that the music had stopped stupid Spencer.  I slowly peeked open my right eye first then followed by my left. There staring directly at me were those chocolate brown eyes again. Her eyes were beautiful just like Aiden’s but yet they somehow were different I just couldn’t figure it out.  They held a slight curiosity mixed in with a bit of what could be fear. It was hard to tell because my attention had quickly been drawn down to Ashley’s mouth as she spoke up again, with a little more force this time. “Stop staring and explain why the hell you are in my room”

    “Umm…” God I can’t believe I’m here right now

    1. I really like this, I see it going to interesting places. The only thing I would say though is that maybe you’d want to look into finding a beta to proofread your stories because spellcheck can only catch spelling errors, not grammar, tenses, run ons etc. But I really like this though.
