An hour or two more had passed and Dano announced that she had to start heading back home. As Aiden caught a ride with her, he had to leave as well and so they found themselves at the front door, saying their farewells to Ashley, Spencer, and Spencer’s parents.
“It was very nice meeting you Dano.” Paula said as she stood beside Arthur.
“You too. Thank you for having me over.”
Ashley had to roll her eyes at how polite her friend got when in the presence of parents. Usually the girl couldn’t give a crap if she spit and swore around adults but when it came to situations like this, she became some sort of ubergoody two shoes.
“Don’t be strangers now.” Arthur said as he opened the door for them.
Dano gave Spencer a hug while Aiden embraced Ashley. They switched and Dano whispered in Ashley’s ear. “Come outside for a few seconds, I gotta talk to you right quick.”
The brunette nodded silently and mentioned having to get something out of her car. Spencer remained inside with her parents while the three teens walked over to Dano’s SUV. “Whatsup?”
The taller girl ran a hand over her braids, jutting her other hand into her pocket and sighing deeply. “The article she gave me. It was him.”
She stared at her in confusion. “Him who?”
“Raw. It was a follow-up on what happened to him.” Aiden informed.
Nausea swept over her and she felt unsteady on her feet. “Fuck. Oh fuck does she know?”
Dano gave Ashley a sympathetic look. “I don’t think so, she would’ve freaked out hard but she’s beginning to remember. It’s only gonna be a matter of time before it all comes back to her.”
Her hand reached out and steadied herself on the car. It was too soon. She was starting to get a little better, not much but at least it was something. Now, recollections of that night were going to flood her fragile mind and send her into a tailspin right back where she started, back into the darkness. It pained her just to think about it.
Noticing her friend’s dismay, Dano enveloped Ashley in a hug, her strong arms holding her close.
The shorter girl needed the comfort. She drew strength from fortitude and confidence that her sister-from-another-mother seemed to always exude. Whenever the chips were down, Dano was always there to provide her with the courage to carry on through the game. She owed her so much but the dark skinned girl never asked for anything in return other than friendship, which was something Ashley would give her anyways.
“It’ll be ok firefly. Pez is strong, you’re strong, and you’ve got us. All of us. You know that right?” she murmured into brown tresses.
Ashley nodded and squeezed tighter, not wanting to let go but knowing that Spencer would probably wondering where she was. Reluctantly, she pulled away from the embrace and smiled at her two best friends who returned the look.
“If you need me, you just call me. No matter what time ok?” Aiden said, giving his own hug.
She couldn’t help but notice the contrast between the two. Where Aiden’s body was hard and masculine, Dano’s was soft even though she was very strong herself. She owed it to the difference between men and women but when it came to feeling safe, both of them supplied the same amount. Whatever may happen to her, the two of them would be there, and that helped give her the added courage and reassurance that Spencer already gave. “Yeah I know. Thank you guys.”
“Don’t thank us, we’re family you know that.” Dano said as she roughed up Ashley’s hair with a smile. “You sure you’ll be alright?”
“Yeah, I’ll be fine.”
“Ok, let’s hit the road jack.”
Aiden started humming the rest of the song as he climbed into Dano’s SUV and the two pulled out of the driveway but not before honking and waving. As soon as they were down the street, she took a deep breath and calmed her nerves. Spencer needed her, and she was going to be everything for her and more.

right i been following this story, and this is the first time I have commented…I think. Anyway, its one of my favs and I have been waiting for you to put up another chapter, and you certainly did not disappoint. I loved it. Post more soon. Cheers
WOW… That’s all I can really say. This whole entire story line has been incredible from the beginning. It has so much feeling, description and has an amazing plot. I sometimes have to remind myself that Dano isn’t actually a character on S.O.N. That’s how much of a talented writer you are, so thank you very much for your fanfic and post more soon!
