The Wheels That Keep Turning – (Chapter: Chapter 2)

So I was totally expecting Spencer to walk away…she did, but she didn’t stay away. She brought back two men with her who lifted me and my wheelchair up the couple of steps that was preventing me from entering the restaurant. Spencer didn’t say anything as she led me back to the table she picked out.

Spencer moves the chair across from her out of the way and I roll up to the table.

“Do you want to order right away or…”She sits down across from me.

“Don’t.” I sigh and rest in my chair. I feel so tense after seeing Spencer’s shocked face. This is one of the rear times that I actual care what someone thinks. The one time I feel so self conscious about my condition.

“Excuse me?” Spencer frowns before pulling her lower lip into her mouth.

    “Don’t ignore the fact that I’m in a wheelchair. It’s a p…”

“I’m not trying to ignore it.” She cuts me off. “Yes, I was a little surprised. You can’t blame me for that.”

    “But?”

“But… what Ashley?” She sighs. “I still want to have dinner with you.”

“Can I call this a date?” I wiggle my eyebrows at her.

“Don’t push it…” She laughs lightly. “So…how was your day?” And we easily fall into conversation.

After dinner Spencer accompanies me to my car. I wanted to take her to her car, but my car was closer so we just kind of stopped in front of it.

“You know…that’s kind of cute but irritating at the same time.” I comment. Spencer’s leaning against my car and biting her lip like always.

“What?” She starts tapping her right foot on the ground.

“The way you have to fidget when you’re nervous.” I wheel myself in front of her. “You’re so cute.”

“It’s getting late.” Spencer pushes off my truck, a red tent covering her face.

“Look at you blush.” I laugh as she hits my arm. “You just wanted to touch me.”

“Are you always so direct or only when you’re flirting?”

“Always direct.” I shrug. “You should try it sometime.”

“Okay…” She stares at my chair, then at my face. “I…”

“Shit.” I groan when my phone starts ringing. I reach in my jacket pocket and pull it out. When I see its Toni, I push the ignore button. “Sorry,” I give Spencer my full attention. “Continue.”  Spencer just shakes her head and smile shyly at me. “What?”
