    CHAPTER TEN

    ASHLEY’S POV:

So I just took Spencer home and I have to admit when I was watching her walk towards her house I studied every move she made. And when she turned around and smiled at me before she walked inside I completely melted. For the next few minutes I felt so content. However, the feeling quickly ended when I got a text message from Madison asking, "has the freak fallen for you yet?" That made me feel like shit. I got so caught up in Spencer I didn’t even remember that I am doing this for a bet. Maybe I should rethink this.

I pull up to my house a couple minutes later and notice that my mom’s car is in the driveway. She must be home to make her usaul monthly appearance and to give me some spending money. I get out of the car and go into the house.

Ashley: Mom? (no answer) Mom, are you home?

Christine: (peaks her head out of the kitchen) Oh Ashley, sweetie, in here.

Christine signals Ashley to come into the kitchen. Ashley sets her purse down and goes into the kitchen. When Ashley enters Christine is looking through the cabinets.

Christine: Ashley, have you moved the wine glasses again? I just got this new bottle of Merlot and it just doesn’t taste the same in a regular glass. (she continues to look through the cabinets.)

Ashley: No, mom I haven’t moved them. I don’t drink wine remember.

Christine: Oh that’s right you only drink the cheap stuff. Really Ashley if you insist on drinking Iwish you would at least improve your taste.

Ashley rolls her eyes. Christine finally locates the wine glasses and pours herself a glass.

Ashley: So, Mom, what are you doing in town?

Christine: Rick Melbourne is throwing his wife, Liza, a big 40th birthday party and it’s the talk of the country club. You remember Rick and Liza don’t you dear?

I remembered them alright, but only because when I was 7 their son, Rick Jr., tried to kiss me on the playground one day and I kicked him in the balls so hard the doctors still don’t know if he will ever have kids.

    Ashley: Yes, I remember them.

Christine: Weren’t you friends with their son Rick? You know he is going to Harvard next fall. Maybe you shoud consider giving him a call sometime.
