The Odyssey of Me – (Chapter: Ohio Story )
“Hey Spence, check out the screen.”
Spencer looks, and discovers that the TV has a surveillance feed of the party.
“Now, we’ll know when we gotta leave.” She adds.
“Cool…Ash, why does Aiden’s house have a secret room?” Spencer asks the awe struck look still not gone from his face.
“I’m not sure…I’ve always assumed it was for security, ya know in case somebody broke in or somethin’ , but Aide’s kinda made his personal sanctuary…I think I’m the only one he’s ever showed.” She answers.
“Then won’t he be mad ya brought me in here?” Spencer worries.
“Nope, I told him that parties weren’t always your favorite thing, and that we might have to bail early. Then he suggested I bring ya here if that happened.” Ashley answers happily.
“He suggested it?” Spencer asks pleasantly surprised
Ashley nods
“That’s really cool of him!” He adds sincerely moved by Aiden’s generosity. It might not seem like much to everybody, but to Spencer things like that mean a lot.
“Yeah he can be a pretty cool guy, when he wants to be.” Ashley says.
They both take a drink of their Dr. Peppers.
“Are ya better now?” Ashley asks still worried yet hopeful that her friend is okay now that he’s away from the party.
“Gettin’ there…thanks!” Spencer answers with a half smile.
“No problem!” She assures him.
“Sorry, ya had to leave the party ‘cause of me.”
“Its not a big deal…don’t tell Aide, but I’d rather be here with you then at his party.” She says honestly.
“Ha-ha, your secret’s safe with me.”
They both smile. Then Ashley asks Spencer something that’s been on her mind.
“What goes on with ya on the inside when ya get all Bi Polary? She asks borrowing his words for it. ‘Cause, I was kinda expectin’ a major transformation, but there didn’t seem to be that much of difference.”
“Ya mighta if we stayed, but this time wasn’t bad…Part of Bi Polar is never knowin’ how long it’ll last, or how bad it’ll be. I could be ok one moment and slowly sinkin’ into depression the next. Then back again…I use to be much worse more often. I’d go from depressive to manic like a rollercoaster, or be stuck in one of the two for days…That was before they got my meds straightened out. Now, I’ can’t get as manic or depressive…I’m either ok, or different levels of sad these days…I’m happiest when I’m talkin’ to, or hangin’ with friends. However, never assume I’m ok if ya don’t see somethin’ wrong…Just ‘cause ya can’t hear me that doesn’t mean I’m not screamin’.” Spencer informs.
