The Dark Side – (Chapter: Because I Care)
“No I said she didn’t answer the phone, that doesn’t mean she wasn’t home. Have you forgotten I’m a police chief, an enforcer of the law,” Glen stated.
“You came to the lab looking for her, so you thought she wasn’t home. Anyway Spencer doesn’t mind me using my key to let myself in sometimes.”
“Mmhmm,” Glen mumbled.
Walking through the foyer Aiden noticed a set of keys lying on the table but no one was around. “Martha,” he called.
“Coming! Oh hello Mr. Aiden I didn’t hear the gate buzzer.”
“I let myself in Martha,” Aiden admitted. Martha frowned.
“Okay, so how are you Mr. Aiden?”
“I’m good, where is Miss Spencer,” Aiden asked.
“She’s in her bedroom sleeping.”
“Sleeping,” Glen said out loud. Martha looked around Aiden’s body immediately recognizing Glen.
“Mr. Glen I didn’t see you standing behind Mr. Aiden. Come here and give Martha a hug.”
“Hey Martha how’s my favorite girlfriend.”
“Favorite girlfriend am I. I can’t tell you never come to visit anymore.”
“I know I’ve been busy. So why is my sister still in bed asleep at two o’clock in the afternoon?”
Martha pulled both men towards her so she could talk in a low voice. “She just got in not ten minutes ago.”
Both men straighten up. “What?!”
“Where has she been all night and who was she with Martha?” Aiden questioned.
Martha was not surprised by Aiden’s inquiry of the lady of the house. It had become routine for her to answer his questions regarding her employer.
Martha who was in her fifties had been the elder Carlin’s housekeeper for many years. After they were killed she decided to stay on as housekeeper and help Spencer cope with the lost of her family and in the process unknowingly became an informant for Aiden regarding Spencer’s activities.
“I’m not sure Mr. Aiden all I saw was a black Escalade leaving through the gate, just before you got here. Didn’t you see it when you drove up?”
“No I didn’t Martha, I’ll talk with you again later.”

Knock, knock… knock, knock…
“Who is it?” A groggy Spencer called out.
“It’s Aiden and Glen Spencer open the door.”
“Go away.”
“Spencer open this fucking door,” Aiden yelled.
“Chill out man, that’s my sister you’re yelling at,” Glen said grabbing his arm. “Let’s just let her sleep.” Aiden snatched his arm away from Glen.
