“So where are you and Ashley off to tonight?” Kyla asked as she too was getting ready to go to a party. She hasn’t been around much so I haven’t gotten around to telling her what happened the other night with me and Ashley.

“I’m not going out with Ashley.” I say slowly trying to busy myself with something.

“Oh.” She says. After a few moments of silence, she speaks again. “Do you mind me asking what happened?”

I give Kyla the low down on what happened. She was just as furious as I was about the whole thing and she was very supportive of me finding a new friend and getting my mind off of Ashley. We continue getting ready on our respective sides of the room after story time is over.

“So who is she?” Kyla asked.

“Her name’s Carmen and she is gorgeous!” I say a little more excited than I anticipated.

“Oh really?” Kyla says, taking notice to my tone of voice. “Do you like her?” I give her a look to disprove whatever she’s thinking. “Okay okay, no you don’t. Sorry for asking.” She says playfully holding her hands up in surrender. “Does she like you?” She asks slowly. I stop what I was doing and ponder this question. I’ve never thought about it before but she was kind of being touchy when we were talking earlier that day but I just thought she was being friendly. “Well… does she?” Kyla asks again, awaiting my response.

“I don’t think so.” I respond more of a question than an answer. “I’m not sure.”

“Well does she think this is a date?”

Before I can answer I hear a knock on the door and open it to see Carmen wearing a more than revealing outfit, looking eager and excited to see my outfit. My heart begins to race a little and I get the feeling I’m in over my head.

“Wow. You look great.” She says, eyeing me up and down.

“Thanks, you do too.” I say unsure of what tonight has in store. “You ready to go?” I ask as I shut my dorm room behind me. Before I shut it completely I look back to Kyla who is giving me a wink and an enthusiastic thumbs up and I just roll my eyes back at her.
