South of Somewhere – (Chapter: Chapter Ten- Reunited And It Feels So Right)
“Leave it alone, our daughter is happy, that is all that should matter to you.” Arthur spoke firmly before turning away, moving into the kitchen to help Spencer make a sandwich. “So, how you doing Spence? Haven’t heard much from you lately.” Spencer took a step away from her father, letting him finish prepping her lunch as she smiled, leaning against the counter, “I know. I’m doing good though, really good actually.” Arthur turned, pulling a glass out of the cabinet and proceeding to fill it with orange juice, “I’m happy to hear that. We’ve all missed seeing you smile.”
Spencer’s smile widened a bit as she watched her dad, relieved that she had at least one supportive parent. “You think Mom is going to get over it?” She inquired, accepting the glass of juice and taking a sip. “Yes Spencer, I know she is going to. She loves you, she just worries is all. We all just want what’s best for you.” Nodding she smiled once more, looking up at him with that gaze that made his heart swell with a mix of pride and love, “Thanks Dad. For everything…” She wrapped her arms around his waist and giving him a hug before pulling away, grabbing her lunch off the counter, “Including this.”
Arthur chuckled, hugging her back before reluctantly releasing her and watching her as she made a bee line towards the couch, “Any day.” Spencer plopped down on the couch, cautious to not spill her juice before she began devouring her sandwich, God, how on earth did her dad get to be such a good cook? She switched on the TV, looking up as Glen entered the room and sat down beside her.
“Hey, where’d you get the food?” He enquired with a bit of envy, eyeing is suspiciously. “Dad made it.” She responded, taking another bite and making small happy sounds, “Mmmmmm…. It’s soooo good.” She taunted, grinning at him. Glen rolled his eyes, although he too had noted her change in attitude. Unlike his mother, he didn’t even need to ask what happened, he knew for a fact the one person who made Spencer this happy this quickly. “How’s Ash?” He questioned, smirking a bit at his own cleverness.
Looking a bit surprised she looked over at him, head tilting to the side a bit, “She’s good.” She answered, smiling before she looked away, eating the last bit of her sandwich. “And how is Madison?” Spencer watched Glen smile, his eyes shifting to watch the TV for a moment before looking back at her, “Good I guess. She’s been acting a little strange since the shooting though. Like jumpy.” He shrugged, lifting a hand and ruffling his hair.
Unlike Spencer, Ashley wasn’t confiding in anyone with her new experience. This was mostly because she didn’t really have anyone to confide in. She didn’t feel like dealing with Aidan and his issues, Kyla was still pissed at her and her mother was… Her mother. Finally she decided to head down to the club and talk with Kat the bartender, at least she would be happy for her.
Seating herself at the bar she gave a small grin to Kat as she walked over, leaning her forearms on the bar, “To what do I owe this honor?” She inquired, pouring Ashley a coke and sliding it over to her, “I haven’t seen you this happy in some time.” Ashley took a sip from her drink before she responded giving a happy sigh, “Me and Spencer are me and Spencer again.” She announced with some pride, watching Kat laugh lightly and roll her eyes, “Boy, you two are on and off more than Jessica Simpson and John Mayer.”
“Hey, not fair.” Ashley laughed, taking another sip as she shot her a playful but dirty look. “Besides, this time it is for good. I can’t imagine anything possibly happening to screw things up this time.” Kat sighed, rolling her eyes as she began to wipe down the bar, “Well, I am just relieved to see that you aren’t hooking up with that boy again. That little horn dog is always giving you the eye.” Ashley laughed, taking another drink, “He is not a horn dog… Well maybe he is a little bit…” Once the bar had been cleaned up Kat returned back to Ashley, pleased to see the young girl so energetic, “All I can say is congratulations, I couldn’t be happier for the two of you.”
“You and me both.” Ashley replied, finishing off her drink before she stood to leave. But, as she turned she spotted that girl, the girl she’d seen driving the Ford Explorer, the girl who Spencer had said she kissed. How could she resist an opportunity like this? An opportunity to sit down, talk with this girl, then rub in the fact that she and Spencer were together and demand this chick never touch her again. Nope, it was a fact, this was completely irresistible. After all, a girl just wants to have fun.
