    “Do you have any idea how hard it was for me to get her to even come outside?” He implores, his voice an urgent whisper as he nervously glances back at his sister.

    I feel slightly guilty, but his attitude is starting to bother me, “She won’t even notice me. I am just going to trim some roses.”

    Glen looks flabbergasted, his eyes widening as he stares at me. The way he is reacting I realize it must have been quite a feat getting her out here indeed, “Of course she is going to notice you!”  His hand flies over  his mouth as we both look over at Spencer in unison to see if she heard. Luckily she is still focused on her novel, and I thank god for those little white earpieces.

    “Take it easy. We are all adults here, I am sure she will be fine.” With that I decide the conversation is over and I turn from him, heading towards my rose bushes. They don’t really need to be trimmed, I actually have a gardener for that, but it is a good excuse to be out here. If blondie doesn’t like it, than screw him.

    “Would you please just-“ He stops when his voice is escalating and it is obvious I am not listening to a word he says. I can hear him stomp away, and I exhale slightly, relieved I can now have some peace and quiet to sneak glances at the familiar figure resting in that tacky lawn chair.

    I need to talk to her, to get a chance to explain myself, to get a chance to earn her trust back. The problem is getting her to listen. Maybe I could just hop the fence, pull out the ear buds and say it all really quick before she has a chance to react. But, who am I kidding, that would never work. Perhaps I should have been a little nicer to that brother of hers, I could use him to warm her up a bit towards me. He seems to be pretty good at calming her down anyways.

    Biting my bottom lip in thought I give a frown, facing away from her for a moment and returning to my work because Glen is re-emerging from the house and heading my way. I turn to greet him, making a silent agreement with myself to be gentler this time.
