    Author Notes:

    I just shut my eyes, take a deep breath and begin to tell her my story.

    I wake up to the sound of groaning. I immediately open my eyes and look at her. She has her eyes tightly shut and she’s cradling her side. I’m still holding her. I gently cup her face and she immediately open those beautiful brown eyes of hers. I can see the pain in them. As I softly caress her cheek I ask, “Does it hurt a lot, Ash?”

    She just shuts her eyes again and nods her head against my chest as she grimaces in pain.

    Well, this isn’t good. I sigh and plead, “Please, let me take you to the hospital, sweetheart. Please. You really might have broken ribs.”

    She opens her eyes and says groans stubbornly, “No, no hospitals. Besides they’re not broken.”

    I raise an eyebrow and ask, “And how would you know?”

    “Because it doesn’t hurt as much as when I’ve known they were broken.” She whimpers

    “Wait, so this isn’t your first time?” I ask angrily

    She just looks away and remains silent. I guess there’s the answer to my question. Okay, get it together Carlin. First thing first, you have got to treat her, feed her, make her feel better and then interrogate her. She’s not leaving this apartment till she tells you what the hell is going on and who the hell did this to her so that you can make them sorry they ever touched her. Step one, get out of bed and go get her prescription.

    As soon as I start making movements to get up she immediately holds on to me tighter and says, “Don’t go, please. You make me feel safe.”

    I just sigh, kiss her nose and say as I get up, “I have to get up, baby. I’m going to go get you some more ice for your ribs and then I’m going to go get your prescription. You just stay in bed and I’ll be back soon.”

    She frowns and asks confused, “What prescription?”

    I just smile as I go to my closet to look for some clothes and say, “Your pain medication.”

    “What pain medication?” She calls out

    I just stick my head out of the closet and smile, “I’m a Dr. remember. I called in a prescription for you last night to one of those 24 hour pharmacies just in case. So I’m going to go get it. It’ll make you feel a lot better than the ibuprofen I’ve been giving you. They’re stronger. It should be ready now.”
