Nothing But Trouble – (Chapter: Three- Take A Look Backwards)
“So you moved in with your dad?” Guessed Emma, knees now tucked up to her chest as her arms enveloped them.
“No, I moved in with Riley. She was my girlfriend at the time. Had this shitty little apartment downtown. I liked hanging around her, she was good at making me forget. She was the one who introduced me to the art of theft and other felonies of that sort. A lovely influence for a 17 year old with a low self esteem. I lived with her for another year, till she died after overdosing on meth. I then pretty much went through a chain of bad relationships that lead me up to where I am now, sitting in a car telling you way too much about my history.” Spencer sighed a bit, relieved she hadn’t cried and also relishing in the feel of finally telling someone the whole story.
“You still have feelings for her? Ashley?” Emma inquired, figuring now was as good a time as ever for her to ask.
“No… Yes… I might, but I don’t want to. I know it sound juvenile, but she really hurt me, and in the worst way. I don’t think I could forgive her.” Spencer replied as she sat back in her seat, returning her gaze to the window. “Not that it matters, I doubt I’ll ever be seeing her again.”
“Nothing juvenile about loving someone.” Emma spoke, almost too quiet for Spencer to hear, but not quite. As she spoke she swiveled in her seat, switching on the car and resuming the drive towards the apartment complex where she knew Spencer lived.
Spencer heard her words but chose not to reply to the comment. Instead she remained silent, staring out the window in a contemplative manner until they arrived at her ‘home’. Assuming you could call the dingy, dimly lit, rat hole a home. Opening the passenger door she stepped out, leaning in a bit, “Thanks.” Was her simple goodbye before she shut the door and walked up to her front porch. It took a bit of fumbling in her pocket, but she found her key and let herself in, the feeling of exhaustion overcoming her almost the instant she stepped inside. It was only a brief moment after she hit the rough bed and shut her eyes before falling into a deep and much needed sleep.

Spencer’s life certainly spiraled downhill after prom. I’m hoping that she has hit rock bottom, because the only direction she can go form here is up…into Ashley’s arms. Loving the story…
