Nothing But Trouble – (Chapter: Three- Take A Look Backwards)

Spencer sat in the passenger seat of the Jeep, her hand lifting to rub her temples as she heaved a sigh. She didn’t like seeing Ashley again, or at least that is what she kept telling herself. The girl driving the car, who looked to be about the same age as she, glanced over at her, frowning slightly. “Jackson is pissed.” The girl muttered to Spencer, who tensed and flashed her a dangerous look.

“I’ll get his money.” Was her response, eyes shifting to stare idly out the window. She wasn’t in the mood tonight to fuss over these things, she just wanted to get home and be done with this damned day. The girl beside her sensed the sour mood and wisely changed the subject, glancing over at blonde. Spencer seemed two have two personalities. One was daring, sarcastic, and famous for pushing things over the limits. The other was quiet and reflective, with this sad, hollow look in her eye that made you realize she was only human. Today seemed to be the latter.

“Something happen?” The woman inquired, fingers drumming against the steering wheel as she tossed Spencer a glance. They were friends, or at least as close to friends as you could get with Spencer Carlin.

“It’s not important.” Spencer spoke, eyes still lost out the window as her breath created a soft fog on it’s surface.

“Who was that girl you were talking to when I pulled up?” Was her next question, one of her brows lifting slightly.

“Just some girl I knew from high school.” Spencer dismissed with a small shrug, eyes turning from the window to glance a the girl, “Why do you care Emma?”

“Well, your just so quiet.” Emma spoke, debating whether or not it was wise to push the topic a little further.

Eventually Emma gathered the courage to ask the next question, her curiosity overcoming her trepidation, “How’d you know her?”

Spencer would have normally shot her a dirty look, but she resisted. The temptation to tell someone, anyone about everything that had happened was a large one. Hell, she knew she could trust Emma to not share the information, and she knew it would feel so good to get it off her chest. But, if she told her, that means she would have to let her inside her head, which she had no intentions of doing.

    1. Spencer’s life certainly spiraled downhill after prom. I’m hoping that she has hit rock bottom, because the only direction she can go form here is up…into Ashley’s arms. Loving the story…
