Not like the rest. – (Chapter: [the new girl])

"Nah, they’ll never have to know!" I say, happy she’s still keeping up a conversation with me, "I’m Ashley Davies." I say, extended my hand for her to shake it.

"Well, hello there Ashley Davies," she smiled, "I’m Spencer Carlin."

A beautiful girl with a beautiful name. Music class just got so much better.

The teacher entered about 15 minutes after the bell rang and announced that our preformances would start right now, and I was first. I got up, obviously nervous, even though I was a pro at this now, and set up.

"What’ll you be singing, Ms. Davies?" Mrs. Hopkins asked me as soon as I was set up.

"I actually wrote my own song. It’s called Happiness." I say, quite shyly because this would be the first time I preformed one of my own songs before preforming it with my band to see if it was worthy of actually letting people here.

"And what’s it about?" Madison said. She was smiling at me, in a supportive way. She’s already read and listened to the song. Though I wasn’t open to her, at all. I only played my songs in front of her. I guess it was probably because I knew she was a bitch, so I knew she’d tell me if they sucked or not.

"Um, it’s about.. how I think, um, happiness is over-rated. That, like, I think people think too much of it and I guess that is just my opinion and happiness. Yeah, okay, it’s my opinion on happiness." That took a while to get out. Cool, Ashley. Stutter some more in front of the new girl. THE NEW GIRL. I forgot she was in the room. She was looking at me, smiling. Shit. I’m playing a song in front of her and it could be horrible and that will be what she thinks of me forever. I hate my life at this moment.

"Well, let’s get it started, Ashley." Yes, let’s start it.

    I began my song..

    happiness is over rated
    never felt myself more hated
    waiting, wanting one short smile
    waiting, wanting for a while
sadness fills my bones, it pains
blades just barely miss my veins
holding on to all that hurts me
holding on to what I can’t be
    wanting you, but never getting
a sad reality i am regretting
    everynight i dream of you
every dream, i wish’d come true
    happiness is over rated
    never felt myself more hated
