    She’d left the past behind her or so she thought. Now it was staring her in the face and all she could do was keep running.

    The sudden stop caused Ashley to jerk forward and hit her head against the back of the seat in front of her.

    She groaned and blinked away the pain that sprang into her forehead.

    “What the hell?”

    She sat up and glanced around.

    She was in a car.

    She was in the backseat and she wasn’t wearing her seat belt so she’d fallen forward with the sudden stop.

    And her head was pounding and she felt slightly sick.

    Where was she?

    She’d been pretty out of it recently and hoped she hadn’t hitch hiked with some whacked killer.

    “You okay?”

    Spencer’s voice brought everything crashing down on her and she shuddered. She had called Madison and had ended up with both Madison and Spencer.

    What was she doing in this car? The last thing she remembered was eating her fries and then nothing else until this moment.

    “What is going on?” she asked slowly.

    “Road trip,” Spencer answered easily.

    Ashley’s eyes met Madison’s in the rearview mirror.

    “No,” Ashley muttered never breaking eye contact with Madison. “Madison, no. No. No. NO!”

    She made a dive for the door and the unmistakable sound of locks clicking into place seemed to echo through the car.

    Frantically she yanked at the door handle.

    “They’re child proof locks. Can’t get out. Calm down Ashley,” Spencer said turning in her seat to give her something that resembled a smile. Except it didn’t look like a smile more like a grimace.

    “Madison! What the hell? All I asked for was a fucking ride! You’re kidnapping me for fucks sake! Madison!”

    “You called me and that’s enough, Ashley. You could have called anyone but you called me. That has to mean something. You can’t have changed too much if you thought to call me.”

    Madison made it seem logical and reasonable.

    Which it wasn’t.

    “I called the only number I could remember Madison! You think it meant something? It didn’t mean a damn thing. You know I hate you.”

    “Ash,” Spencer tried to play the voice of reason as fucking always.

    Ashley turned her bitter gaze on her.

    “And I hate you too. I can’t believe you’re doing this to me.”

    “Well, it’s not like the feeling isn’t mutual,” Spencer finished saying her tone losing its friendliness.

    Trapped in a car with the two people she could have lived with never seeing again. Going somewhere she so didn’t need to be because all she’d done was make a phone call.

    How did it come to this? She wondered painfully.

    When did she lose control of her life?

    Why had she ever thought these two women meant more to her than anything else?

    Nothing good had ever come from being with them.

    Only pain and heartache.
