“Come again?” asked Ashley. “You really are getting on my last nerve.”

“I can’t believe you’re throwing away what we have together for some… some…” Ashley looked like she was going to murder Melody at this point.

“If you know what is good for you, I suggest you don’t finish that sentence,” Ashley growled. “You do and it’ll be the last one you’ll do. For the record, what we had, not have. Or better yet what you thought we had.”

“What were you going to call me?” Spencer shot out. “Are you going to call me a slut again?”

“You’re not as stupid as everyone thinks you are,” sneered Melody. “I heard about what happened to your parents in the paper. Your father is embezzling money from a charity. How pathetic is that? They had to freeze your bank account, right?”

“What?” Ashley asked stunned. Spencer shook her head in disbelief. “Why didn’t you tell me this?”

“It’s something you don’t want to broadcast,” answered Spencer with a sigh. “Especially to you.”

“What does that mean?” Ashley asked confused.

“Forget it,” answered Spencer.

“Is it because I live in a mansion?” Ashley questioned.

“You just don’t get it,” sighed Spencer.

“Get what?” Ashley asked. “Spencer, you can tell me anything.” Spencer bit her bottom lip and ran off. Melody had a satisfied smirk.

“She couldn’t handle the truth,” sneered Melody. “The truth hurts.”

“You better stay away from me and from Spencer,” Ashley began coldly. “Leave us alone for good.” Ashley ran into King High to find Spencer. “Spence, wait up!” Ashley caught up with Spencer and led her into an empty classroom. “I’m so sorry.”

“It wasn’t your fault,” said Spencer with a sigh. “I had to find out from the newspaper that my father is in jail. My parents are screw ups and so am I.”

“Everyone makes mistakes,” Ashley pointed out. “It doesn’t make you a screw up.

“Yeah, but most people don’t repeat them,” responded Spencer with a sigh. “My father is in jail, Ashley. Someone snitched on him and my mother is God knows where. A-and as for me… I have no family. Well, I never did. I have no money to live off of. I don’t have anything in my life or anyone for that matter.”

“You have me,” Ashley added. “I’ll always be there for you. I’m never going to leave your side again. My place is open for you to stay. You know that, Spence.”

“No, I don’t,” sighed Spencer. “I don’t have you!” Spencer broke down in tears. Spencer was about to slump down on her knees, but Ashley wouldn’t let Spencer do so.

“Yes, you do,” Ashley stated reassuringly. “You do have me.” Ashley was about to hug Spencer to comfort her, but Spencer moved back. “What’s wrong?”

“No, I don’t,” responded Spencer. “Melody did and some lucky girl will someday, but no, not me. You’ll find someone new that you have that spark with. I’m never going to find anyone, Ashley. No one will want to be with a scr-” Ashley silenced Spencer with her lips and kissed her with all the passion she felt for the younger girl. Spencer cupped Ashley’s face and the kiss became more passionate. Ashley pulled back from the kiss.

“You were saying?” Ashley asked with a smile. “You’re the one I have the spark with. You’re not alone.”
