“Hey sexy” A soft feminine voice purred in my ear from behind.

I felt a pair of icy cold hands slide along my arms, sending chills throughout my entire body. I turned my head to be met with the girls pale green, glazed over eyes, giving me the indication she was obviously drunk or on something. I took in the appearance of my old lover and she hadn’t changed much since I had seen her last. She still had straight, caramel colored hair that fell just below her shoulders with a smile that could bright up even the darkest day. But unfortunately beauty can be blinding to what really hides just underneath the surface. 

“How you been?” Kaci struggled in her drunken state to take a seat next to me, so I grabbed her arm and helped her to the stool.

“Pretty good. How bout you?”

“I’m survivin’” She replied while steadying herself.

“Look Kaci I don’t mean to be rude, but why exactly did you ask me to come here? I haven’t heard from you in three years.”

The last time I saw Kaci was the night I had been planning to tell her I loved her. It was suppose to be one of the most exciting moments in my life, but instead it was a total disaster. See Kaci and I were roommates at UCLA our freshman and sophomore year and it wasn’t until I met her that I finally had a reason to admit I was gay. We dated freshman year and halfway into sophomore year and things were going great. My growing infatuation with her truly led me to believe that I actually loved her, but it was nowhere near the feelings I now have for Spencer. I eventually learned the relationship I had with Kaci was all just a lie.

One evening, three years ago, I was rushing back to my dorm to tell Kaci how I felt about her. To my surprise, I walked in on my girlfriend having sex with another girl in my bed. Long story short we broke up and went our separate ways. Ever since Kaci broke my heart, I don’t think I’ve had a normal, functional relationship. There would always be a different flavor of the week and I never met another girl worthy enough for me to love that is until I met Spencer Carlin.
