Maybe one day I'll wake up and it won't hurt so much. – (Chapter: Why do we like to hurt so much? That's what you get when you let your heart win.)

Apparently though, she had other ideas. “No, don’t go.” She held onto my hand. “Stay with me please? Like old times.” But inside I knew things were never going to be like old times. They never could be anywhere near old times.

“Of course I will.” I said in defeat. “I’m just gonna get some water.”

“There’s apple juice in the fridge. I know that’s your favorite.” She said quietly.

“Thank you.” I kissed her forehead one last time before leaving the room. I grabbed a cup and before I could fill it up I saw Ashley’s purse on the floor. I decided it would be nice to pick that up. I saw a piece of paper with a stamp across it that said ‘eviction’. No wonder Ashley was such a mess right now. I guess things were going to be forced to be like old times pretty soon.

I put the items into her purse carefully and placed it on the nearest end table before going into Ashley’s room. It looked like she was asleep already, so I gently crawled into the bed with her. Instinctively she wrapped her entire body around mine. It was just like high school again. Every weekend we would spend the night with each other. She would always cuddle up beside me and the butterflies it caused would keep me awake all night. I still wanted Ashley, but I also wanted Jessica. I couldn’t just drop one person to be with another and neither could Ash. She was with Aiden and I couldn’t expect her to drop that.

I feel for Ashley more than I have ever felt for anyone else. I just couldn’t see it happening at this moment. She’s a good friend for the time being.

Morning rolled around and the light shined through her purple curtains, making everything turn a slight tint of blue. Ashley stirred next to me, showing that she was waking up. I looked her in the eyes when she woke up; they were slightly puffy from the crying she did earlier. “Hey sleepy head” I said softly as she adjusted to her surroundings.

“Hey,” She spoke hoarsely. “About last night…” Oh great she was awake and wanted to start talking about what happened immediately. I wasn’t sure how to handle it, so I jumped in with my own input.
