    The girls go to Paris

    Our hands are still interlocked but there is space between where we both stand and our arms are like a bridge between us, held waist high and unwavering as tears spill from my eyes.

    “What if a year from now or five I run into one of them and they hardly recognize me and I ask about my family and I find out that my mother or father or Clay or Glen had died and I never knew! And I walked around all this time thinking that they were alive and they really weren’t and I would have never made it right with them. I never got to show them how much better I’m getting or that I’m happy or that I have a new family with people who love me and are there for me!

    My tears are messy as Ashley watches them fall as we are both shiver in the cold winter air.

    “And it’s so unfair!” The words rip from my throat and echo around the field. “It’s so unfair that they don’t get to know that they weren’t the ones! They didn’t get to fix me! They broke me down and pushed me away and they’ll never get to know that I’m glad. Because they don’t deserve me, they don’t deserve to know the woman that I’m becoming and the reason I’ve become her. You!

    Her eyes are welling and I tug her closer to me in desperation, catching her by the waist.

    “You have put me back together piece by piece so effortlessly it’s like you just knew what to do. And I’ve been so selfish.” I whisper. Her face clouds with confusion and before she can say anything I cut her off.

    “Even now, I’m being selfish. Sara’s mother just died and I’m making this about me! Jess left her side to take care of me, and I’m tired of that! I’m tired of being the one that people have to take care of because my fucking family couldn’t do it!
    “Well it stops now! After Paris and the funeral and after the holidays I have to go see them. I have to tell them what they did to me and be able to tell them how fucked up it is. But right now I have to be there for my friend.” I pull her close to me and she hugs with me a fierceness that I return.

    20. Wow! Seems like I wasn’t the only one expecting rude Spashleyness in this chapter! That said, I loved it anyway! With just the briefest introduction I’ve already fallen in love with Sara’s family and really felt their loss. Again you have introduced some potentially awsome original characters. I know I’ve said it before but it really adds depth to any fic and when it’s done well…yes I do mean you!….it sets them apart from the compettition….and I must say I’m looking forward to the burlesque club….always wanted to go but not got round to it yet!! Awaiting your next post…whatever it may be…with bated breath! Oh, and your one shot/short story sounds intriguing…Bring It On!!!
